Is the Ryzen 8700G good for AutoCAD and SketchUp?

A friend asked me for a suggestion on how to configure a new PC for him to use with AutoCAD and SketchUp.

I told him that he doesn't need to spend money on a video card and that the Ryzen 8700G with its iGPU is already enough for these two applications.

He won't be using the PC for gaming.

What do you think?

I have a laptop with a 7840HS, which is basically the same as the 8700G and it works fine with CAD software such as Solidworks and Fusion. I think your friend will be fine with the 8700G, and they can always upgrade by adding a graphics card later.

AutoCAD is, and I think Sketchup is, lightly threaded and loves CPU clock speed. Neither program is graphics-bound in my experience. An 8700G should be plenty.

The Ryzen 7 8700G is an 8c/16t CPU well in excess of AutoCAD's minimum requirement of eight logical cores, whereas SketchUp will run on literally any CPU.

A dedicated graphics card is, however, recommended for either app. AutoCAD suggests a DX12 FL12_0 GPU with 8 or 12 GB VRAM and 106+ GB/s bandwidth, which the integrated Radeon 780M does not meet. SketchUP will be happy with any DX12 FL11_0 GPU, though a rendering plug-in will necessitate a more powerful card.

32 GB of system RAM should be the minimum on any workstation-class PC.

Eh how do you figure it doesn't meet those? Even my 760M has more than twice that bandwidth and you can allocate as much VRAM as you want, I usually do 8GB.

I put 16 on my 8600G. I am surprised at how fast these chips are. My 5600G is joke next to this chip.

You're using an old version of GPU-Z which seems to be misreporting the specs. There is no way Phoenix could achieve over 100 GB/s memory bandwidth:
