Okay, thanks, my future plans are, get a bequite! Dark Rock Pro 2, and then SLI, I don't see much point in an SSD right now, doesn't seem worth it since I could only ever get a 128 GB.

I have a Caviar Blue in my secondary rig, not exactly the fastest HD out. If your not going to have a SSD, I highly suggest getting a Caviar Black in place of the Blue.

Oh how wrong you are and will always be.

Get an SSD, the rest is fine, but as said multiple times, if you're going to buy a K chip, you need a nice cooler to make the most of it.

and that is just enough. 128 for win, programs that load a lot and games (those that require up to 5gb). improvment will be sensitive.
i resently bought 128 ssd for my wife's pc and i am very satisfied with the results.

if budget is not too tight i would get 2x8 ram for 43 more

My 2 cents: take a cheaper motherboard and add the extra money to buy a gtx 770

those 2 ara good example

@dlsmoker I'm getting the Asus motherboard because I really like how it looks and I want to try out all the software they have.

@BarbaricSoul I'll look into it.

@RCoonv I'm going to be getting a cooler soon just not right away, I will overclock when I get it =P

@ne6togadno I really don't want to juggle files from SSD to HDD, and it's not going to improve performance in games. Any reason you would get 16 GB of RAM over 8 GB?

16GB vs 8GB is a very large debate not worth spamming this thread with. Look up the threads on this and make your decision.

Those MoBos are excellent examples for cheaper but effective MoBo's, +1 to those, leaving you more money to spend elsewhere. (HINT GPU GPU GPU HINT)

shut up GPU MANIAC.
in this build ssd will offer more then 770 over 760

ram size depends on how you will use your pc. check rcoon's link

there is nothing to juggle between ssd and hdd. you chose which drive during instalation and that is all. there is no need to move my doc, page file and temp folders to hdd. drives like samsung 840 pro, ocz vector, ocz vertex 450 or corsair's equivalent models (i am not sure for model names) are capable to handle loads from every day use w/o need to juggle files.
here ocz have very good abc guide in installation/handling of ssd. you can see that there is only few things you need to do so that your os work flawless and you have reliable ssd.
i can assure you that after win7 instalation i had to manually adjust just few options in windows in order to meet all advices from this guide.
and the difference is ...
my laptop mobo is sata2 and i have 2x7200 sata3 drives desktop's mobo is sata2 as well and it has 128ssd and 7200 hdd both sata3. time from power button to loaded desktop for laptop is 2 times bigger then for desktop pc.
yesterday on desktop rig i have started samsung kies and it was loaded and ready for use before i can manage to move mouse from edge of the screen where kies icon is to the mid of the screen (1680x1050).

Surprisingly even if I drop to a Asus Z87-Plus which is cheaper than the ones you've recommended there is no GPU that's faster for the £30 that frees up.

Yeah but what is your end of the line budget? £900? Dropping down to those cheaper MoBos mentioned above, you will see >1% difference in gaming situations, whereas with an SSD, your windows will be faster to load, programs will be instant, certain games dumped on the drive will load a fair amount faster. And with the GPU upgrade to a 770 which can be had for around £320, you will obviously see a fair few extra FPS in games. Seems a no brainer to me.

My budget is £800... Kind of went over a bit.

Fair do's to you then. Downgrade to one of those other Motherboards and you'll be in/closer to budget. No room for extras by the looks of things, and it'll do its job great.
Transfer speeds are going to be your only enemy with a single HDD, cause you'll be running OS alongside games and programs etc.

Oh well, I'm sure it will be faster than my 10 year old dell 7200 RPM HDD I have right now. Thanks for all your help.

Oh, off topic but you're from Lincolnshire, so am I, I'm up by Grimsby.

+1
take it as it is (with cheaper mb) and later when you have $ get ssd. difference will be even bigger then difference between old dell 7200 and WD blue
