Kingston brings forth a Fury Renegade Limited Edition memory kit inspired by racecars. Equipped with a CL36 8000 MT/s XMP profile with only 1.45 V, Kingston is targeting PC enthusiasts. Alongside some serious overclocking, read on as we break down the pros and cons of this Fury Renegade.

Thank you for the continued extensive work on memory testing.

I believe it's a typo but in the overclocking segment, the 1% lows for Baldur's Gate 3 seem to have the Patriot Viper Extreme 5 name but more than likely are actually the kit being reviewed here.

@Heiro78 thanks for the heads up. With so many graphs this happens to me a lot more than I like :/ . Fixing it now.

Fixed - numbers were right, just wrong name.

How can the XMP-7200 profile have worse timings than the XMP-8000 profile…

I am not sure about "2:1 ratio is not Optimal", since AMD now defaults 2:1 even for 6000Mhz Kits.

How can the XMP-7200 profile have worse timings than the XMP-8000 profile…
Primary timings are irrelevant, in most cases secondary timings are more important, DDR5 xmp timings are usually always trash.
You have to manually adjust timings for DDR5 anyway, so not a big deal.

Edit: u cant tell if it is worse. I just double checked screenshots from Review. 8000 mode has ridiculous ~400ns tRFC, while it should be at least 300ns, idk if u can make it worse.

Its not and has never been. Only exception is some MBs will do that for dual-rank.

Tell that to 99.9% of buyers. We are the 0.1% that will make any adjustments to the timings.

Its not my problem, I am just telling that XMP timings on this kit sucks, and reason why this kit works slower than 6000 one, on AMD game tests.
400ns tRFC is crazy, even for M-Die, feels like this whole kit was designed for a marketing 8000 number.

Or this tRFC is motherboard fault.

so if u can't adjust timings, just don't buy this garbage if u still care.
And its not 99.9% anymore, knowing how often we have weird timings today, it was 99.9% 10 years ago.
Because is some one can't make something proper for you, you have to do it urself.

Its not and has never been. Only exception is some MBs will do that for dual-rank.
thats strange, I need to verify it then

The 4 big ones (MSI, ASUS, ASRock and Gigabyte) has memory improvement options (ASUS XMP1-Tweak), but it can be a problem for reviews. Firstly it isn't all the same. ASUS may lower the tRFC X amount vs Gigabyte, or not touch it at all. Secondly it changes some of the other sub-timings too (different per MB and brand). Therefore everything is tested with the all the SPD values loaded as it would be by default and motherboards that don't have these features.

I talked to G.SKILL about this recently actually. They suggested to use ASUS XMP-1 mode. However, contrary to the name, that is actually not loading all the SPD values.

Bright red paint with RGB looks really tacky. IMO the design should be all painted with no RGB at all. Or, use RGB and have the paint job be black white or silver so it blends

I have this kit with AMD and locked in a 1:1 ratio with the 6400xmp - works great, bought it to compliment the also limited edition Lian Li Lambo case - keeping the "race car" theme. Will update these sub-timings thanks to this review. Great job.

I'd like to add there are multiple Samsung 24 Gb ICs in production. S24P and S24B currently exist. S24B is very poor performing and in my opinion is the worst 24 Gb IC by far and the second worst DDR5 IC after M16A. Do you have any plans to test other ICs like M16D or S16D? The best M16D bin looks to be Crucial's 2 x 16 GB 6000 36-38-38-80 1.35 V modules.

I always wanted to ask, why is the XMP 5600 kit so good on AM5 in 1440p games?

If I included the 1% lows you would see it's slightly behind. For the average FPS, what you are seeing is the games GPU bound. 1-3fps is within margin of error. Lower the graphics and it's like 1080p all over again. Higher settings, less frames, smaller gap.

I wasn't aware. Haven't come across any personally yet, but I'll keep that in mind they exist now.

I have a Micron Pro 2x32GB 5600 kit in the works for next week. Not sure the ICs yet. Haven't taken it apart. Looks like it can at least do 6000 CL36 because Micron sells one. Early DDR5 Micron hated voltage.

I did a 24Gbit micron IC from Corsair a while back. Highest I could go was 7000 due to voltage limits. Really didnt like above 1.4v.

This is 100% accurate. I care about getting performance out of my build but won't go more than 3 attempts at getting something stable haha

I won't be setting my own timings. I'm running this PC at a super stable place and hope it will last me another 5 years

Its about having a bad product out of box.
Having a headache finding a good product out of box.
And realizing it more ez just to adjust a bad product to good one urself, instead of seeking stuff on market, where manufactures can even provide number of ranks, not speaking about crappy secondary timings, that ruins ur performance up to cheap OEM memory sticks.
Because now all I need to know - which chips are used and number of ranks.

So I am expecting more and more people learning about ram, because like 5 years ago it was not a problem at all.
