looking for an audio player (foss would be nice) for windows, under 10mb. dont need anything more then audio playing but it must have click on program to play/pause and dragging possible by mouse cursor

winamp just went opensource, but its like 12mb.

yea just installed winamp.
but no drag to move* meaning, you have to drag it by the small main top menu are and thats like vlc.
no click to pause/play
no press space bar to pause play
it has volume up down but only when the cursur is over the small main player
uninstalled.
I use mpc-hc and I LOVE IT but the audio is significantly better with vlc and winamp and it sounds absolutely shite with mpc mp3 and other audio.
I think I need to install some audio codecs in mpc to be happy. I only have 1 ffdshow and I already uninstalled that too.

no doesnt it do it for me. none of that. does it perfectly fine in mpc-hc. didnt do it with vlc so had to let it go. I can even deal with the horrendously small gui of winamp but those basics are a must have.
I have to see about adding audio codecs in mpc. it sounds horrible. winamp sounds even better then vlc. I was doubting my denon avr and kef speakers with mpc then vlc and now winamp is WOW sound!

How is the audio quality different from program to program?

I have no idea myself and couldnt understand it. maybe the codec. I thought it was the file, but then installed and played it on vlc and wth, why is there no distortion and its super clean and its what I expected it should be with -new to me- kef floors and a denon AVR I use over a small chinese cheap amp and small sattelites.
so I said to myself...something is so off with mpc. no way does the songs sound so distorted and no amount I tried with equalizer apo would help. tried it in vlc, and bam, sharp clear and no distortion. now tried winamp and its even better. really refined sound. . I think its mpc missing audio codecs.

It´s over 20 years old now and can get under 10mb.
Depending on your file structure under 5mb, if you delete all but ones skin and all the psychedelic add-ons.

yea, look above. installed it but no good. I even forgot about winamp for so long but something is off with the ui. when I press the space bar it should play/pause. it doesnt. also no dragging by the playlist. only by the top of the player which is small as is for my mouse to hit. also click to play/pause doesnt work. its like vlc. the sound is so great between vlc and winamp but sheesh the ui is horrible. why the hell didnt they make a bigger ui already. like 25 years what was relevent for crt small screens is not for huge azz high rez wide screens. I have to see why mpc doesnt have proper audio codecs its a substantial difference in audio quality between it and winamp/vlc.

Freeware foobar2000 is a 6.4 MB Windows download. Installed, it appears to take up about 19.2 MB of disk space. Not sure if that's a dealbreaker for you but you've already tried Winamp so I thought I would throw that out.

I don't remember anything like that but my brain isn't infallible.
I did look up the foobar2000 entry on Wikipedia and see no mention of that sort of issue. Typically web dorks are pretty good at cataloging those sort of failures in Wikipedia entries.
If you have an aversion (whether justified or not) to foobar2000 that's your call.

But that doesn’t make sense. The MP3 decoders are standard across many players and haven’t changed in decades.

could be because of vol set, many dont use the players vol and leave it at 100%, where some files will have issue (SQ), unless vol is at or below a certain threshold, usually around 85%.

I still use Winamp 5.666 - the last closed source version before it went on hiatus. It's from December 2013. I just realized that it's practically 11 years old.
I've been thinking of trying some of the plugins from newer versions of Winamp "Legacy" and see if they load on this one. As far as I'm concerned, the new open source versions of Winamp... are no longer Winamp. The company that bought them years ago has finally decided to make something of its purchase and essentially turned it into some sort of hipster, trendy Spotify clone, with the player itself becoming little more than a footnote.
