Greetings all,

need a little help setting up a simple sound setup. Speakers: 2.1 Edifier s350DB . Soundcard: AE5-Plus. Attaching screenshot of the Creative command center.

Questions are:

Have I selected the right type of speaker? -> Bookshelf?
Should I enable "Front left and right"?
Should I enable "Bass redirection"? If yes, should I also turn on Subwofer gain?
Default sound quality is 24bit 48khz, should I change it? Can go up to 32bit 96kzh from the drop-down menu?
Should I change anything in the Windows control panel?

Thank you in advance for the time.

I would set it to desktop speakers. I would leave full range unchecked for now.

Bass redirection will open the frequency range a bit and push more to the subwoofer. Leave it unchecked for now

I’d leave it at 24-Bit and 48kHz for now.

The rest is up to you and your tastes. Adjust and enjoy. If not, come back and adjust it again until it is to your liking.

What is going to sound appealing to person A may not work for person B.

Menus dumb down what they are doing. Which is altering the signal you want to be delivered untouched to the speakers.

My feeling is your best sound will probably come from the least amount of options selected and lowest effect they can have. Meaning if there is a 2.1 option that doesn't include surround in the top menu you should try that. Desktop instead of bookshelf and so on. The most important decision could easily be avoiding having the card upsample signals. 16/44 all the way.

The above is common sense, adjust to taste and revert the setting after becoming adjusted to see if introduced an effect that is undesirable. Per above, settings might sound good at first and be obviously worse after you've adjusted to them. :)
