looking for inexpensive x570 that can do 16x/8x on both pcie slots

was looking at various boards and kept seeing specs on some like MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus

I was certain x570 boards would allow running both pcie slots in 16x/8x but they only allow a6x/4x which arent better then my cheap pos b550m mb that does 16x/4x

so whats the point for the x570 if it doesnt do the basics better?

2-3 nvme. dont care for leds.

1x front panel usb c connector on the mb and a fan for southbridge would be good.

I sold my B550 mainboard already. A close relative still has his x570 mainboard.

What i remember the second NVME slot is pcie 3.0 on a B550 board. A x570 board has two pcie 4.0 nvme slot

so whats the point for the x570 if it doesnt do the basics better?

It's low end hardware. I think it's not worth discussing about it anymore.

X670 has 3 or 4 nvme slots. One or two more. All pcie 4.0 and one or more pcie 5.0.

1x front panel usb c connector on the mb and a fan for southbridge would be good.

definitely not - only a bad design - a cheap shit design needs a fan on the chipset. Especially at room temperature.

I remember now. The X570 was the trash design with a fan on the mainboard for the chipset. The b550 mainboards did not had that. The x570s most likely did not had that.

-- as the hardware is dated i would go for any cheap second hand mainboard available from the 300 / 400 / 500 chipset series.

X570 Taichi is $220 on newegg right now and allows PCIe x16 in x8 x8 config.

I don't think anything comes close to the value of this board at the price. I used to have this one (paid $500 for it) and it's competitors are still in the $350 - $400+ range.

Wait, you want a X570 that does 1x16 + 1x8 or one that does 1x16 OR 2x8? The former probably doesn't exist, since motherboard-integrated peripherals usually take 4 lanes or so leaving you with 20 usable max (as long as you have Matisse or Vermeer), the latter should be pretty much universal.

So get a MSI X570 Gaming Plus or something if you want inexpensive.

In theory - x570 can do one x16 and one x8 at the same time. In practice only one board - Asus Pro WS x570 ACE does that, because that x8 makes sense only for 3.0 devices.

On mainstream segment it's either one x16, or two x8, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

To be fair, B550 chipset uses half the power as X570. It is also a more limited design compared to X570.

High end boards like Strix B550 XE are neat to play with, and overclocks bclk better than X570 too.

I didnt realize this. maybe cause its the first mb/pc ive purchased in some years. I was certain the more expesnive lines could do 16/8x. I thought lower level would be limited but not higher. I dont see a reason then for an x570 board

was looking at that board. but it does 16x/4x. thats not better then my junk b500m now.

I just saw a video by jaz saying that oc isnt really a thing today. years ago I had q6600 and it was stock 2.4 I was able to stay stable 3.6 all year long. today youre just trying to get the up to speed they spec.

oc is not the same today. unfortunately.

and another thing I see is motherboard prices are thieving high. I wont play the game. ill get used.

Nope, the 2 slots connected to the CPU will be split once something is detected in the secondary slot.

Intel runs a lot of lanes through the chipset afaik, but I am not familiar with their modern hardware.

that oc isnt really a thing today.
Its still a thing. 3 ways you can do it:

PBO tune, with power limits and curve optimizer, and the allowed boost override.

Static tune, using fixed multi and vcore.

And bclk tune, handy for X3D chips especially, since they are historically locked down, though that has changed with this new gen.

if youre buying, then cool, ill take whatever it is you want me to get hahahaha

I would not waste so much money anymore on an outdated platform. I'm well aware of the Ryzen 5800X3D fanboys. And the "average" performance as of now. I see a mainboard a long term investment. that mainboard purchase will lock you in AM4 for another 4-5 Years if you intend to keep it.

im waiting for my newly ordered 5950x (video editing). but im like this. I always buy high end 1-2 older gens. wait for the thieving prices to come down. 5950x will still perform very well.

I almost bought one lol.. still might not sure..

I mean, I already have a 5900X, but I always wanted the 5950X. And now that it is half of what I paid for my 5900X, and still less than what I paid for my 5800X3D.. makes it tempting.

But so does a new socket, because prices are pretty good tbh..

What you are looking was reserved to Expensive AM4 boards but X470 like the Master SLI gave you what you were looking for for less.

Can see myself buying a used 5950x or 5900x for AMD rig at some point, handy for virtual machines.

Even new its down to close to £200 now.

what? what do you mean? x470 can do 16x+8x but x570 cant?

or youre saying that the HIGH end x470/x570 board have this option but I can get the x470 for cheap to get 16x+8x ?

or im a dumb mf and I dont understand what youre saying lmao!!

No consumer am4 (or even am5, and even Intel) will give you x16+x8, since that would require 24 lanes and that's usually the max the cpu has (so some of those need to go into the chipset for extra peripherals), with the only exception being that x570 WS mentioned before.

If you're ok with x8/x8 from the cpu, then you do have quite some options. I personally have a b550 proart that allows so.

I think the 5950x is still a killer top level cpu that can do the same things I needed in 2020 and still the same in 2024. nothing has changed. the race of "better/newest" has always been. its not relevant for me.

I personally have a b550 proart
let me research that a bit. is it only high end boards that have 8x+8x?

Meanwhile I'm looking to upgrade from my 5950x due to the lack of AVX-512 and also because 64GB DDR5 UDIMMs will soon become available, so a 2x bump in both performance and RAM amount at consumer pricing would be amazing for me.

Yeah, pretty much. You have plenty of options on AM4 compared to AM5, but those are still on the higher-end with either B550 or x570 chipsets.
Another example on B550 is the Strix-E (the -F model does not support x8/x8).

Not quite what OP's looking for, regardless.

As far as I can tell, *all* x570 boards are limited to x16 to the 'cpu-connected slot(s)'. They are bifurcatable, but limited to x16 being allotted.
x4 go to the X570 Chipset, and I believe the other x4 are used for primary on-board devices (USB, etc.).
tl;dr: You're not going to find an X570 board w/ >x16 lanes off the CPU, accessible.

Without going into custom mountings and assortments of risers, you're stuck w/ x8/x8 (maybe, x12/x4), etc.
