Consider changing your CPU first as prices for those are actually kind of normal. Something like a 5600x would be pretty big.

Try overclocking the 570 for a little extra performance.

STATE A BUDGET.

These types of questions are pretty useless without a budget.

PC graphics cards are still heinously overpriced in July 2021.

The next step up would be an RX 580. I bought my Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB for $180 about a year ago (down from the $230 launch price back in April 2017). During the peak of the price gouging, this card was about $720 street price, 4x what it should be. Today, the RX 580 is still going for around $680, 3.75x what it should be.

Do you really want to pay $680 for four year old Polaris architecture that provides a modest bump in graphics performance which isn't enough to help you run the most demanding upcoming games? If you are willing to budget far more, the latter is of course attainable.

That said you seriously need to consider Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 until PC GPU prices come down to reasonable levels. My guess is that this will occur in Q4 2022.

Perhaps a compromise? Ryzen 5700G? I haven't tried it myself but looks interesting.

Your motherboard will run even a 5950X with the right bios and a VRM fan. It wouldn't be my first choice but it will run a 5600X. If you want better gaming then don't go the 5600/5700G way. Get your 5600X and wait untill the GPU prices return to normal with a GPU upgrade.

would it matter much that B450 is only going to do PCIe 3.0 anyways as for lanes it's the same as the non G variants but some are used for the onboard GPU to run at PCIe x8 so that leaves about 12 or so

If a 3rd party 5700 or 6600 can be had, id say go for it.

But his cpu is a 2400g, so I feel like he can get more bang for the buck with a 5600x/g, while letting prices come down even more for GPUs.

lmfao, 3600 is OK for the money, for overprice 5600x i'd get 10700k anyday lol

I don't like how the APUs are limited in pci express

5600x is not bang for the buck, an i5 11400f is.
Not when you figure in the cost of a new motherboard. And LGA1200 is at the end of the road, to be replaced with LGA1700 for Alder Lake-S which likely won't last longer than two generations itself.

If he has a good board that is still supported, not something like a bargain bin low end Asrock board, then sure, i guess that can work.
