So i recently bought a ryzen 7 7800x3d with a MSI Mag b650 and corsair vengeance 6000mhz ram.
I did some benchmarks and got low scores (like 1.5k in cinebench less than normal/ 16.7k ) in 3d mark and cinebench and i cant seem to get behind the issue here .
Help would be very much appreciated

What 3d marks test did you run?

Try timespy if you haven't already and post your scores.

Also download hardware info and look at your temps while running the benchmark

Make sure Expo is set in the bios and ecc mode isn't on on your 4080.

Is your RAM running at 6000Mhz?

I have the same CPU, and Fury memory rated for 6000Mhz, but my mobo (with the non-frying BIOS) limits voltages. I can't run above default Jedec settings (no EXPO).

I've still not figured how to unlock the voltage settings to increase SoC above the crappy 1.1, or the Memory voltage, which is too low for EXPO (crashes when I enable it).

it does run at 6000,
but increases the boot times from when i had it at 5200 to test (6000mhz roughly a minute and 5200 30 seconds)

Can you enable expo on any ram kit or do you need the ones that have expo on their packaging ? ( cause i bought one without it saying expo on the packaging)

That's where I would look for the culprit. What is your CPU temperature and clock speed during a sustained Cinebench run?

The 7800X3D hates water cooling - or at least some coldplate designs.

Is your RAM running at 6000Mhz?

Which BIOS version is that? I have a similar board as yours, but no such issues.

Sorry to OP for hijack, but it's same processor, and board class, so might be relevant.

@AusWolf

It was the May BIOS to safeguard against overvolting the CPU. E7D76AMS.50 (30/5/23)

I've noticed in the mobo section - AMD Overclocking:

mobo 1.jpg
mobo 2.jpg

Can I alter SoC from here (had been looking in the OC menu in BIOS). If so, is the value a direct input, i.e., 1200 = 1.2v (which should be safe. Up to 1.3 is safe, I think?)

Then how to increase the mem voltage? If I enable EXPO, and disable fast boot, will the memory voltage sort itself, or is it also manual?

Is that the "Settings" menu? You might have better luck looking in the "OC" menu:

This is BIOS version 1.80, which came out shortly after the over-voltage fix as well.

Yes. If you have XMP, you'll see XMP in the BIOS (which is fine), although, your issue is different in nature in my opinion.

Check temperatures, that can only be explained by the CPU severely downclocking.

Your SoC voltage is a bit on the high side at 1.3 V, but this is not the problem. Your CPU temperature isn't the best, either, but at 86 °C, it's not at throttling temp, yet (just shy of it).

Does your CPU run at a constant 4800 MHz throughout the test?

it settles at around 4.650 MHz and doesn’t go above that during a cinebench run

That's not great. Have you got PBO enabled? If so, at what setting?

You could also try setting the SoC voltage back to 1.2 V, or 1.25 if 1.2 doesn't work and see if it improves thermals.

My biggest suspicion is still your liquid cooler. I tried my 7800X3D with a 280 mm Be Quiet unit first, and it throttled all the way back to 4400 MHz. I never thought switching back to air cooling would make a difference, but it's night and day. The X3D is a very strange beast that is allergic to (some) liquid coolers.

My 7800X3D is on air, a Bequiet Dark Rock Pro 4(?). But the CPU runs as expected. Boosts past 5Ghz, maintains 4.8Ghz all core. Temps easily controlled by the admittedly huge air cooler.

Should add, my SoC voltage is low (hence memory issues).

The only way i could get my 7800x3d system to maintain above 4.7 was with a -20 curve optimizer (all core)

Launch cinebench, go to task manager and set cinebench priority to real time. While testing cinebench window will freeze but it will still run, so just wait.
You should be able to get around 17000-17500 at fullstock. 18000+ is usually done with negative offset. You can try something like -30 CO after.

Yep, switching to the Dark Rock 4 solved all my problems. The 7800X3D doesn't like (some) water. It's not advertised anywhere, which is sad, but true.

17540 is a good score for stock 7800x3d on air.
Still, I advise you to try [-20,-30] CO on bios. Best value depends on cpu, try to go as low as it can. It would increase performance and also lower the temps. Especially important when you use air coolers. It can help with noise and power consumption too. There is no downside.
