Re: USB C Magnetic Adapter 2 Pack

I don't normally promote or endorse a specific product but I am so pleased with these, I just had to let others know about them. At $25 for two, I was hesitant to buy them but I am glad I did. These things are nice! I even bought 3 extra "tips" (the port adapter) for another $10.

Note the size of the tip (on the left of the image). It is only 1cm deep so most of that is inserted in the port. This means it barely sticks out from the device. They don't get snagged on anything or get in the way (at least they have not for me). I have one in my phone and both of my tablets and so far, they have worked flawlessly.

If you have devices that require frequent charging and you don't like fumbling with the cable, these are for you. The cable end portion of the adaptor has a couple tiny LEDs so even in the dark, you can find the cable and, if you know about where the port is on your tablet, phone or whatever, you can easily connect them without the need to see what you are doing. I really like that.

They support fast charging too! :)

I really miss the magnetic charging ports on the old Sony phones. :(

I have been interested in these magnetic tips for a few years. But I moved on to wireless charging for my phone and earbuds before I bought any. Other devices are not charged often enough to bother me. How are data transfer rates in reality though, if you have tested that?

Was going to roast you a tiny bit for using a url with a couple referral/tracking tags. But turns out the actual tag is added by the forums for good measure.

Data transfer? No. But I will say my phone charges faster with these than it does through the wireless pad and seems (I have not actually timed it) to charge as fast as a normal cable connection.

【PD 100W Fast Safe Charging】The magnetic adapter work with 100W USB power transfer with 5V/3A-20V/5A, ensure your devices with the fastest charging speed without power loss, can support all your USB C devices charged safely at maximum power rate.
Not sure if 5V/3A-20V/5A is a range of possible power outputs, or just these two. If your phone doesn't support 100 watts charging or specific voltage-current configuration, it's going to fall back to 15W (5V/3A) which is same as wireless charging power these days. For fastest (and safest) possible charging I would still recommend manufacturer's adapter (or one that provides suitable power ratings for your phone). Nonetheless, useful addition that's not expensive. I might order one.

Not sure what you mean by "safest" - I don't see how these can be any less safe - especially since there is no way possible to bend any pins or cross connect (short) any connection with these. Even if you accidently bump the connector when connected, there is no way any damage can occur as the magnetic connection will simply split apart and disconnect with zero stress on either the port or the cable end. IMO as an electronics tech for 50 years, these are safer than having to physically connect and disconnect a mechanical connection.

And yes, of course, if the device you are charging does not support fast charging, it won't fast charge! But it wouldn't anyway so not sure about that statement either. No fast charge simply means it will take longer to charge - the exact same result with any charging method.

@Calenhad - just looking at the specs posted on the box and that webpage, it claims,
support 4K@60Hz HD video & audio output and 10Gbps data transfer speed.

By "safest" I was refering to battery life and its condition maintenance. I found this article as I don't feel like writting a novel about the topic:
I'm not saying you should only use the original adapter, but I'm saying that you should use the intended power ratings of the charger meant for a specific phone and its charging abilities.

Concering fast charging: My Samsung S23+ does support fast charging, however it doesn't support 100 W fast charging. I'm including an image of my original adapter, and the voltage-current ratio that my phone can be charged with. If none of the higher power configuration parameters are met, the phone will charge with the fastest possible speed that it supports, in this case 15W (5V/3A), that's why I'm wondering if it's a range of V/A ratios, or just the two listed. Also PPS (programmable power supply) is a good feature that let's your phone or a laptop calculate when it should charge, and how fast, further improving overall battery life.

Okay, a couple things. First, you are bringing up issues that really have nothing to do with these magnetic USB - C connectors.

These are NOT chargers! The don't attenuate or boost any voltage or current. They don't move any voltages to different pins.

These are simply magnetic adapters for the cables - and frankly, "adapter" is loosely applied here because the connector type is not changing. That is, it is USB-C the whole way. In fact, if one's phone uses a USB-C connection for the charging (as most do these days) the user can still use the manufacturer's supplied charger.

As for that article, while correct, it's hardly beneficial for it does not describe what the wrong, or even right charger is, or how to identify what is correct - other than saying to use the manufacturer supplied charger. That is, it does not define what "incompatible" is. :(

As it is, IMO, it is very misleading. In fact, I would describe it as marketing hype since it clearly was written by someone in marketing and/or sales working for Mobilebeat - a phone and phone accessories retailer - and not someone qualified in electronics. :(

OF COURSE an incompatible charger should not be used. But let's be realistic. USB-C by definition is a "universal" industry standard. It supplies industry standard voltages, uses an industry standard pin-out in an industry standard connector. Compatibility is NOT an issue there.

EVERYONE must also realize that batteries pull from chargers only what they need AND no more than the charger can supply. That is universal too. This is exactly why on our cars, for example, you can charge a discharged battery with a big, heavy duty charger/jump station in 20 minutes or less WITHOUT damaging the battery, or you can use a tiny "trickle" charger to charge the battery overnight WITHOUT damaging the charger.

The batteries in our portable devices are no different in that manner, despite the different battery chemistries.

So yes, you are correct, we should be using compatible chargers. And of course, this assumes everything is in good working order and not defective. But that really has nothing to do with these magnetic USB -C connectors, or this thread. So please, let's keep the discussion to these magnetic connectors.
