Today, McAfee Corp., a global leader in online protection, announced the launch of its new McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard product available at Staples stores nationwide. McAfee's Privacy & Identity Guard will help Staples customers safeguard their identity and privacy online. In the U.S. 70% of adults are concerned about their ability to keep their information private. And more than half (52%) of U.S. adults want to be more in control of personal information and data online. Therefore, regaining control of personal data, and the data often most sought after by cybercriminals, has never been more important.

Staples customers will have access to McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard and will be able to proactively monitor and remove data online to help prevent potential identity theft and fraud. With an industry-leading set of features, McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard provides visibility into the risky places personal information is available, including the dark web, data broker sites, and sites that hold data tied to unused or old accounts. Customers can then take action to reduce the amount of personal data online and, in turn, lower the risk of identity theft.

Staples customers will also exclusively receive identity restoration services when purchasing McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard. This includes 24/7 access to restoration experts to help repair identity and credit if needed, as well as lost wallet assistance if ID, credit, or debit cards are lost or stolen.

McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard is a natural fit for on-the-go Staples customers and is sold in the travel section of select Staples stores. The section also includes various travel services such as passport photos, TSA PreCheck and fingerprinting services.

"We are proud to be able to offer Staples' customers McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard," says Craig Grayson, SVP, Services, Staples US Retail. "Identity and privacy protection is critical, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this product to better protect our customers wherever they work or learn."

The launch of McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard marks the first release of a McAfee product focused solely on privacy and identity protection. The product can be used standalone or can also complement any existing device and online protection products.

"Over the past seven years McAfee has been an exclusive provider of various security services at Staples. We're excited to continue to partner with Staples with the initial launch of McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard in the U.S. Empowering consumers with the tools they need to take control of and manage their personal information online is critical in protecting their identity and privacy. We're proud to introduce this new online protection product in the U.S. and to provide holistic privacy and identity management for our customers," said Gagan Singh, McAfee's Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer.

Key McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard features include:
  • Privacy Features - Find personal data tied to old, unused online accounts. McAfee will simplify removal, so you can stay more private online and are better protected from identity cyber thieves and spammers who use that info.
  • Online Account Cleanup - This feature runs monthly scans to find customers' online accounts and shows a risk level to help customers decide which to keep or delete.
  • Personal Data Cleanup - Removes personal info from sites that buy and sell it. Staples customers get full-service protection that scans data broker sites and enables requests to remove personal information found.
  • Identity Monitoring - Monitor personal information with timely alerts.
  • Proactive and Guided - When a breach is detected McAfee can help guide consumers to take the most effective and simple steps when action is needed.
  • Extensive Monitoring - Keep tabs on almost 60 unique pieces of your personal info such as your email address, phone number, Social Security Number, tax IDs, credit cards, or bank account numbers, to ensure they are secure.
  • Dedicated Support & Assistance - McAfee offers friendly 24/7 assistance from security experts available via phone or online.
  • Identity Restoration - Exclusive to Staples U.S. customers as part of McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard these features offer further peace of mind in the event of identity theft or loss.
  • Restoration Experts - Identity restoration experts are available 24/7 to help customers take the necessary steps to help repair their identity and credit if they ever need it, including assistance to help prevent or assist with identity fraud of a deceased family member.
  • Lost Wallet Assistance - If a consumer's ID, credit, or debit cards are lost or stolen, McAfee will help cancel and replace them.
Is Your Email on the Dark Web?
One sign that your privacy and identity is at risk is if your email appears on the dark web. Hackers and scammers post email addresses and other personal and financial information on dark web sites—sometimes offered freely, sometimes offered to other hackers and scammers for sale. Consumers can find out if their email is posted on the dark web by visiting https://www.mcafee.com/idscan-staples.

Pricing
The suggested retail price for McAfee Privacy & Identity Guard is $99.99, and Staples customers can purchase it for the exclusive introductory price of $89.99.

TLDR, Staples customers get $10 off, and it's $100 for anyone who wants it regardless.

Let's see, so you give them 60 unique pieces of your personal info (or more, depending on how many mail or other accounts you have), and then when McAffee suffers a breach, now the crooks have all that info

They are going to be a huge target and I have seen nothing said that says how THEY store all that info and how well they protect it, and also what they will do when they are breached and sorry, 1 year of CC monitoring won't cut it

Nobody should get this service

This. This whole thing just stinks of bad idea. Then again, it's McAffee, so kind of expected. They haven't had a single good idea since their long lost more than a little crazy founder invented signature detection.
