Microsoft recently refreshed its Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lineups with Intel's latest Lunar Lake chips. The company also introduced the new Surface USB4 Dock, and as the name suggests, this new dock lacks Thunderbolt 4 support, unlike the pricier Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock. The USB4 Dock is available for pre-order for just $199, which is substantially more affordable than the $299 that the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock sells for.
Considering the cheaper price tag, the ports on offer are also rather modest, and suitable for only those users who require no more than a few additional ports. The Surface Dock sports a total of two USB4 Type-C ports, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, and an HDMI 2.1 port. At just 12 x 6 x 1.5 cms, the Surface USB4 Dock is plenty compact, and weighs in at just over 200 grams. The 100-watt power supply allows for up to 65 watts of passthrough, which will definitely come in handy when the need arises.
