hello, im no techie so i will try to explain the best i can - i like to mod my case to the simplest form... i dont need audio jacks nor usbs on the front of the case, because i use the ones at the back from mobo.
i unscrewed the switchboard out from the front panel and removed the extra audio jacks and usb ports - leaving me only with a circuit board holding the power button, the reset button and its Leds.

i would like to use a single white led PWR button (maybe it turns off PC, if held down more 3 sec) such as the one shown below, from AliExpress... my problem is the wirering part !? dont think i need original black ribbon cord because this button seems to have already the cord and welding done, with its mobo tiny connectors (power sw and pwr led +/- ) but i dont know about that 3~5V mentioned... if voltage is wrong, will it fry my mobo? --- PS: with my dremel, i will open a hole on my case panel, to screw on the new metal button.

you need whats called dupont leads

power can be wired any way +- or -+
led only works one way and will not fry if backwards

reset need its own switch so you need to figure out leave it on panel or get another switch

Thanks @natr0n - arent these DUPONT leads ? (what i called "tiny connectors" LOL)

So, let me start out with a simple explanation. What you are asking is if you can take the case wiring, disregard it, and add your own power/reset button. The short answer to this is yes.

Now, let's talk about everything else. The motherboard activates when a circuit is completed. This is why you can short the power switch pins, and get your mobo booted without actually having a button. What you need to know is the pinout of the motherboard, so you know what to connect where. I'm assuming the board in question is the one in your information...so check page 30 of the manual: ASUS mobo manual

This will tell you what you need to connect where (with polarity). Do not worry, worst case scenario is that you wire these polarity reversed (assuming you get don't jump different pins), so the LED won't work and/or the computer won't boot (assuming there's not substantial voltage leakage around the LED). Please note that the advertised connectors will work...if you buy this switch it should directly replace the power switch on your board. The board uses a connector block, wiring to a PCB, and a momentary switch to provide your on/off signal (power-sw on the PCB above, with the LED below it being to indicate power flowing).

Now...about those voltages. You have switches that can use different voltages, and thus need LEDs specified at different operating ranges. A computer power switch is 5 volts maximum, so the 3-5 volt option should do you.

So we are on the same page...you are taking out a front panel connector... Are you then rebuilding the (presumably plastic) grommet around it...or are you going to keep the old one with empty holes and switch covers where there used to be functional stuff? I can understand a clean look...but this is basically killing your ability to use a flash drive, plug-in extra USB devices, and it's some work for some aesthetic concern. Far be it from me to question the validity, but it seems like a lot of work for not a lot of gains.

The same type of switch can be used for the reset function, although that is basically obsolete on most modern computer cases.
Both the power and reset use two pins each on the motherboard and use "momentary" switches.

thank you so much for detailed explanation - i learn everyday!
yes im taking out the original one and replacing it with a single pwr button because i have usb and audio on the back
i mean ...i did post inside "modding case" section, so dont be suprised for the results LOL
and yes i have the connection page here, so no errors while pluging in... ok, im off to buy button!

I find having USB ports at the front very useful and means that damage and wear can be kept away from the motherboard.

EDIT - found another button, i like better !
A friend of mine got that button since his case is not facing him. Conected it to the motherboard the same way the case button was conected, routed it through a hole in the back of the case and has it on his desk. Now he does not have to get up to turn his pc on or off.

I commend your choice of colour in the era of violent blue power lights. In my current cheap case (Bitfenix Nova white windowless) I did a single mod: blue goes out, white goes in.
Here's an idea if you're really good at fine mechanical work and want your button to be more sophisticated. Take the switch apart, mount a red LED next to the white one and connect it to HDD_LED terminals to get a combined power and disk activity light. It will also look a bit like the TPU logo. Ha!

They sell the switches with seperate leds on Amazon. I was looking at the same type of thing last night and bought a different switch
