Hello all,

I'm currently in the market for a new graphics card, in the $300 range. I was thinking of going with a nvidia 7900gt card. But is there an equivilent or better ATI card for about the same price i should be looking at? Maybe the x1900XT?
I would like to have the option of dual-graphics cards in the future, either thru sli or crossfire. And obviously, i have a PCIe mobo.
Suggestions for other cards in this price range would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

x1900xt all the way, it has twice the ram, 1.1ns ram, and can flash to an x1900xtx 100% of the time.

You have to remember you can't run crossfire on any board..

Has to have a crossfire chipset.

7900gt wins. Even though it has half the memory, it is basically a 7800gtx 256 that runs cooler.

personally, if it was just based on performance i would go x1900xt all the way. the x1900xt trounces the 7900gt in most cases (if not all, i'm not sure, probably opengl or something), with over 10k for the x1900xt and just under 8k for the 7900gt . so the choice is clear performance wise.

however, the 7900gt is under 300, whereas the x1900xt is 434 @ newegg, so they aren't actually in the same market

the x1800xt 512 is about ~330 or so i think, and that still beats the 7900gt in things like 3dmark, HL2, ESIV:O, and so on, and i'm not sure about the opengl apps. depends alot on what games you run.

with that said, i would go nvidia, just because cooler, easier to double up on gpu, and everything like that. nvidia's are in it for the long haul, esp those 7900's

enjoy your new card whichever you decide to get!

EDIT: upgrade to 2gb ram to fully appreciate the power these cards have. i was running 1gb for awhile, and then fear and oblivion came along, and then bam, i need all the ram i could have. with a gpu like these, you will appreciate that ram like whoa

i would go with the x18 or x19 card just due to the fact that there are silent compared to a 79gt and the x19 is faster you could go with a x1900 or try to get a x1900xt
