Hi I just got a 5090 , msi gaming trio oc, and have been unable to get it to work at all. windows gives me a code 43 in device manger. I’ve tried multiple bios new and old, tried ddu and resetting windows many times. Tried old 3080 in this same new build, it works. So I’m assuming the card is DOA sadly. In GpuZ Sometimes it shows bios, other times It does not. Always show 0mb memory and code 43 in device manager. Any potentially help in getting this to work without having to deal with RMA would be Amazing!

What other troubleshooting steps have you followed? What led you to wanting to flash a new card out of the box??

Also, looking at the vBIOS database, I don't even see a MSI dump under verified/unverified for a 5090, only ASUS and Gigabyte.
Sorry, i flashed Mobo bios not Vbios. I checked msi center and it says " no update available Already up to date. was hoping i could try flashing vbios via that but seems i can't.

Put it in Gen4 mode. See if that is the problem.
Yep I have tried Auto, gen5 , gen 4 , gen 3. still code 43 in device manager

Have you tried re-seating the card, or a different pci-e slot?
Yes I’ve done that. Had 3080 in system and it works perfectly fine, ran furmark with it just to make sure. Put 5090 back in and again code 43. Also I did try lower slot still the same.

You have different "Driver date" on your screenshots.
Does the "sometimes no BIOS info" apply to a newer driver too?
think you are right here, seems it would show up after newer nvidia driver. not sure if it stopped showing with driver ill look into this, thanks.

Yep I’ve checked and removed several times, 3080 works fine in same system,I’ve laid case on side and made sure it’s seated . As well as ram. I’ve tested 285k with intel software and seems good. Ram checked out fine as well but have tried booting with both sticks , one at a time, to see if that somehow made a difference but no. I’ve tried safe mode ddu few times with different mobo bios wondering if there was some issue between the 2 and if somehow getting corrupted. Also wondered if vbios came otb corrupted possibly. Also I’ve tried switching bios form silent to performance several times as well with no luck yet. I’ve been trying to get this work since last Thursday. Card has lights and idle fans. It still code 43. If I disable it and device manager and reenable it, it’ll start for a second but then Windows immediately disables it.

Ok, have you tired.

DDU the driver, restart and wait? Let windows install the driver instead? Sometimes it takes a couple minutes and requires and internet connection. (This is how I test legacy gpus in modern boards before installing the gpu driver manually) may require system restart. If windows does nothing, yes probably something wrong with the card.

Nope, sorry mate. That looks like a DOA. Code 43/0 MB reading is bad, like, really bad.

I haven't even gotten my order fulfilled yet... your card arrived dead. This launch is officially shit :(

Yeah i’ve obviously been in denial for days. Trying to figure out if I’m just not doing something properly, but I really think it’s DOA sadly.

Again with this , I was back on feb 12 nvi bios again both card vbios via the on card switch , showed unknown again. How I got them to show before in pic I’m not even sure.. but either way it was still code 43 so it didn’t really matter.

So I did this, updated windows as far as I can. Now in device manager it shows Microsoft basic display adapter. If I try to update driver in device manager says it has the best driver so I guess I’ll try and download nvidia driver again and see.

Yep I give up. Thanks everyone for the help though. I’m gonna rma. when I find out what’s wrong I will update. Might be a while, though I hope not.

If he wants a 5090 likely RMA is the best choice not only have they went up in price since launch there is no supply meaning he could be waiting months for a gpu. My trackers are only showing very few restocks so far gone in seconds.

In addition to this, if you have access to a friend's gaming computer, might be worth trying on their system too if you want to exhaust all options prior to RMA

This. That noname psu migh have cooked the VGA with some voltage/power spike.
I will never understand the case, when people buying a pile of money for the top vga and pair it with a cheapo, noname psu...
PSU is literally the base of everything, little to no compromise allowed.

I don’t disagree, plan on replacing it.

The psu can benchmark 3080 with no issues so surly enough to power 5090 at idle at least. It’s cheap but works from my testing. It will be replaced but I’m almost positive it’s not the issue but could be wrong I suppose. I’m starting to think the mobo could be bad but again 3080 works np.
