Hello all,

I recently bought a second-hand MSI B450-A PRO MAX from eBay. Over the past week I've been trying to diagnose and fix blue screens and random, sporadic USB disconnection events while my brother has been gaming on it. It is now driving me insane to the point where I want to return it and buy something from ASUS or Gigabyte instead. I have an ASUS X570 board in my own machine and any USB issues were sorted with the BIOS update a couple of years ago.

The blue screen I'm not sure is associated with this USB problem or not. It's always PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50) caused by win32kbase.sys. To my understanding, the error code is CPU or memory. The memory is running at DDR4-3200 with 1.1 V SOC. The default was 1.15 V and the blue screen was happening more frequently.

He uses his Xbox controller with the computer using Bluetooth. The adapter is an ASUS PCE-AX3000.

When the USB disconnection triggers, everything (keyboard, mouse, controller and headphones) all turn off before briefly returning. Upon returning there is a Windows alert about an unrecognised USB device, and Device Manager shows there was a problem with one of the items listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers." No amount of messing around in Device Manager fixes this, and so far the only way is by restarting the machine ... until it happens again.

What I've tried so far:
  • Motherboard BIOS updated to the latest version;
  • Drivers updated for the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth adapter, and the AMD chipset drivers;
  • Tried both USB headers on the motherboard;
  • Changing BIOS settings regarding C-states and made sure ASPM was off (it was disabled by default apparently);
  • Changing Windows power plan setting for USB selective suspend to off;
  • Unchecking "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" setting for each USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) item in Device Manager.

Below I have screenshotted the Device Manager issue.

The seller offers returns until tomorrow. I've done my best to try troubleshooting this as I'd really prefer not to return it, but I'm simply out of ideas at this point.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you in advance.

I thought DDR4 uses 1.2V
