My pc doesn't detect my gpu, i tried everything, updating bios, resetting bios settings to default, removing the intel igpu drivers and installing amd's nothing worked.

1686568155981.png

my pc specs :
i5- 4670K
8gb ram
amd r9 280x vapor-x tri-x OC 3gb (the undetected gpu)

note: my pc is a prebuilt (Hp prodesk 600 g1 twr) so i literally dont understand a thing in the bios, but i could open the system information but theres no pci slot infomation, my cpu and ram and hdd pop up but no gpus, i think its about the bios or uefi because i understand nothing in them.

i also use an external psu 300w (288w max) while my gpu's max is 250w, first i plug two 8 pin connectors in my gpu then connect the cord into the outlet in and make a short in the 26 connector then it powers on, then i plug the dvi cable in the gpu, after that i connect the main pc's cord and power on, the gpu fans spin and lights turns on so i dont think its a pci problem.

Update the motherboard bios using igp

And put card in another machine for testing, otherwise go to shop for some physical help

i tried a diffrent gpu on my motherboard and it worked just fine, my gpu was actually working on another pc but it ran in drivers issues so they removed it and used the igp.

The GPU probably just won't work with those PSUs. You are better off getting a new model low power GPU that is only slot powered, something like an RX 6400 or GT 1030. The Radeon 280X is a power chugger.

That system is very long in the tooth and being hp there is no telling what bios they used on it, if it even has uefi/csm. No telling if the gpu is good either, better to haave it tested in a known working machine than 1 of question...

You plugged the monitor into the GPU, not the motherboard, right?

Needs to look for Windows 10 64 bit at above link

He doesn't understand that total system use needs to be incorporated, so the psu is underpowered.

I suggest a 500 watt at least, thats if the motherboard isnt using proprietary connections

Well the Brakes have been put on as the motherboard in said system uses proprietary power connection scheme.

The user would be better to part this system out and start fresh.

but it works?
No guarantee the 280 even is. You need a system upgrade for sure as you are limited on the power supply capability

Haswell huh, well, you have a ~decade old PC. Since you say that the graphics card works on another computer, check if your power supply is still good. If it is, then try another graphics card if you are capable of doing so. If the other card doesn't work, you may need a motherboard replacement - or really, a whole new platform upgrade at this point.

Your graphics card is obsolete, that's why new driver versions don't detect it. Keep this in mind: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-21-5-2

Sounds like a BIOS issue to me. The GPU works in another system, another GPU works in your system, so....that makes your system doesn't want to work exclusively with this GPU. Check if HP has released any BIOS versions for this workstation. If not, I would sell that GPU and get one that works out of the box.

of course bruh

i just tried tge gpu on another pc and it worked fine
Your issue is the motherboard and powersupply in that hp system. So you know the power supply in the hp is not up to task of driving that card and the motherboard uses proprietary connections, so you can't just upgrade the power supply. Its time you save up and piecemeal a system together. Start with a 650 watt Reputable power supply and go from there.

Sounds like a BIOS issue to me. The GPU works in another system, another GPU works in your system, so....that makes your system doesn't want to work exclusively with this GPU. Check if HP has released any BIOS versions for this workstation. If not, I would sell that GPU and get one that works out of the box.
The motherboard is proprietary so cant upgrade the powersupply either

It probably comes down in buying a new GPU if you want to game...

As Damric mentioned , buy a GPU which is only PCIe slot powered.

Get a 1050 Ti it's slot powered. Or an RTX A2000.

Both are faster than a 280x and support newer tech.

ahh yea good catch! the card is so old they would need to use the legacy drivers. modern AMD Radeon/Adrenaline suite drivers aren't even supported on this card. so I suppose that means the old fashioned "Catalyst Software" version.....I haven't seen that since I had a ATI card (HD 5770)

About 2 years ago AMD phased out the first three generations of GCN graphics cards into legacy support. Apparently I missed this:

There's a legacy update from June last year to these old cards, best just use that instead of 21.5.2 (which is a solid, pre-legacy branch driver release, anyway).
