Hello folks, I want to upgrade to 64gb ram and I'd like some advice between these Gskill kits, I've been looking online and there's mixed info about some of them being single rank and others dual ranks depending if they were manufactured recently or not. There's a $25 difference between these 2 choices if I want 64gb, also they will be used with my current setup in system specs. Any help is really appreciated, thanks!

2 x F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC $179.98
or
1 x F4-3600C16Q-64GTZNC $204.99

If me, and if I really wanted 64GB, I would get 2 x the dual pack on the left and save $25.

3600 16-19-19 WAS a pretty common 8Gb Hynix CJR bin for G.skill. I'm not completely sure if 4 years later that still holds true.

There's not much else in G.skill's known DDR4 inventory that will also easily do the same spec. There is 16Gb CJR which is relatively new, but afaik it does worse timings at these sub-4000 speeds. Other 16Gb Hynix/Samsung fare is far worse and shouldn't be in 3600 16-19-19.

Bottom line: if you want 64GB DDR4, look for a 2x32GB kit. Playing around with 2x16GB and 4x16GB has a high chance of landing you with 8Gb ICs (dual rank per 32GB, quad rank per channel). Which doesn't bode well for achievability/speeds/stability depending on your board.

General rule for most boards is probably to expect 3200 max, on 4 DIMMs, if 8Gb/quad rank. Have seen 3600, but don't necessarily count on it.

There is no reason to believe those two kits are different. It's the same speed bin for G.skill.

The only advantage of the quad stick kit is it's guaranteed to work together but if you really want 64GB definitely go 2x32 imho.

That being said running 4X sticks should be fine at 3200 like what was said previously if the look of 4 dimms is what you are after.

I've had good luck on the OG Aorus master with memory my guess is the new one should be slightly better so you are probably in good shape there otherwise it's a lottery on if you can run that at DOCP.

^^THIS^^

Been there, done that, many, many times for high-end client builds, no fuss, no muss, neveranottaproblemo :)

And I've had the best luck/performance with Gskill, Crucial, and a few Corsair sticks here & there...

However, if/when 48/64GB sticks become available & affordable, this will change in a heartbeat...which will probably require a move over to gen 5 sticks though, as I've seen some of them in 2x 48 & 2x 64GB kits already, but they aint cheap, yet !

That's going to run really well with your 5950x. If you were going with the 4x16 kit you most likely weren't going to be able to run the full 3600.

I'd actually be pretty interested to see the sticker on that to see what the IC is from the 042 code. 16Gb ICs that are actually decent are pretty rare ever since Rev.B went away with Ballistix discontinuation

Congratz on the purchase.

Regarding 1DPC vs 2DPC, MSI states that their board supports 4 DIMMs of up to 3600 16GB dual rank memory on the product support page when paired with a 5000 series CPU. So with an MSI X570S board, you can get 3600 memory speed with the 2DIMMs-Per-Channel configuration.

The Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master is more or less the same. I downloaded this pdf "mb_memory_am4_6LML_vermeer.pdf" and it specifically says that:
When running XMP at DDR4 3200 MHz or higher, the system’s stability depends on the CPU’s capabilities.

And the X570S Aorus Master does support CL16-19-19-39 3600 4x16GB dual rank memory configuration.

Of course, opting for 1DIMM-Per-Channel configuration is the safer bet in terms of stability at higher transfer rates.

Cheers!

I doubt it, the box was sealed and the other dimm isn't too different.

Sealed box means does not prove anything. I am just saying, there is clear evidence (to me) the labeled has been tampered with. There clearly are gaps between the sections and those end sections do not align with the top and bottom edge. This is evident simply by looking at the left end.

I am NOT saying the RAM is counterfeit or that the RAM itself has been tampered with. I am saying the label has.

The RAM is fine, nothing wrong with the labels. Waiting for Mr. Sauz to bring the info on the Hynix CJR.
