its just gigabyte's qc thing, that dark red stuff you see is just paint. Also pretty sure its not a dent, but rather orientantion reference (denoting pin n1 in some cases) for positioning the ic while factory assembly. As you can see it matches with the triangle printed on the pcb. Pretty sure its normal for gigabyte boards, but lets see if the OP confirms there is no burning (rub it good with alcohol, the paint should come off).

if you could provide higher quality (and most importantly, actual photos of your card), that would help. For now, the first card if you indicated the faulty component correctly, needs some 6-pin chip denoted as Q1810 (sorry that reference photo is not of really high quality, this is why suggest taking your own). As for the second card (again i cant see a thing on that reference picture), looks like its a diode (or a cap) and a smaller smd cap. Please take photos of your real cards, and in the meantime you can measure the values (resistance, polarity) of the surrounding similar components to see what specs you need for the replacement parts.

What is the exact model on that r9 290? Looks like a Powercolor but that photo is low quality and can't zoom. Knowing the exact model would help.

R9 290 is very generic. Once all is clear with your family get better pictures of the cards and white sticker labels

Ok 1 is a Reference design (the Blower Squirrel Wheel) the other is GigaByte non reference)

The white stenciling on the board tells you what device it is for each SMD.

R, C, Q, K

What was the problems with these 2 cards?

Check to see if these pages have an email address for guidance on pcb repair.

That's fine we all start somewhere, just understand that those videos, if they have a website with an email address to the owners of those pages, they may be able to provide more guidance.

I myself do firmware rescues on gpus.

Im not sure how to determine the component without a schematic diagram or being in possesion of a known good gpu that matches up with the 2 you have to be able to measure their values, reference design is reference design no matter if AMD or Sapphire. The AIB cards are different between brands such as Asus (ROG) and Sapphire(Nitro)

Capacitors (C) are measured in microfarads, Resistors(R) in ohms/milliohms/microohms

Appears to be a reference board, possibly manufactured by ATI/AMD in-house? Powercolor, Sapphire, and HIS all made cards using this same PCB & cooler, but had unique stickers on the cooling fan. I would think that component would be identical on a diagram of any of those cards.
