Hi
I got this Nas today. I figure it is pretty old, but have managed to get access to the online settings using firefox. I cannot access them using chrome or edge. What i would like to know is how can i access the drives from windows 11? I have never had one of these before, so am pretty pleased i managed to get access to the NAS setting using firefox. I just cannot figure out how to actually access the drives.

Any help would be much appriciated.

Hey bud. What do you mean exactly? The physical drives? Or just making a share? Do you want to use it like a share? Or like drives on your PC? (iSCSI)

I was gonna use it to backup, or just as external storage for dumping stuff i want safe on. But haven't got a clue how to do it. Yes the drives, it has 2x 500Gb in it, but don't know how to show or access them in windows.

Also is it possible to access the online settings using edge or chrome? I understand this uses an old(er) system/protocol

is this of any use at all?

I did try RAIDar but it says RAIDar could not find any NETGEAR storage on your network

The NAS does show on my network

Word looks like you named it. Next would be going to “Volumes “ to make sure the drives are initialized and formatted the way you want. After that you would create a share in “shares”.

As for accessing it in Windows explorer you can add a network location or in the explorer bar navigate to it like

\\NAS-NAME
or
\\n.a.s.ip

you will get prompted most likely for a user name and password. This will be the user name and pass you are using to access the nas.

Of course you should be able to create other users. Probably from the “system “ menu

Looks like you have 500gb avail and using about 170. It is in raid 1. If there is nothing on it you need, you can press "switch to wizard mode" and it should start a configuration wizard where you can format/reconfigure the disks. Though these are ancient so im really stretching my memory. Additionally, as for the browser support, it might help to look to see if there is a firmware update. Likely not supported anymore, but there still may be one available that is newer than what it is currently running. Worth doing even if it doesnt end up helping with browser compatibility before you start putting data you care about on it.

This is the downloads page for your specific nas model: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rnd2000v2_readynas_duo_v2/#download

It might also simply be worth doing a factory reset also probably in "system" if you dont care about anything on this. Which should by extension also allow you to configure the disks.

Are those shares you made? Either way, when adding a network location specifically (IE: not using the explorer window) you MUST define a location.

\\n.a.s.ip\NAS

so include the folder of choice at the end.

Looks like you managed to get to it in explorer without entering a USN or PASS. That would mean its open to sharing. New security in new OSs arent really going to like that hence the warning. You should be able to change the permissions of the shares themselves to require a username and pass, and that might make it happier. Hopefully it isnt sharing on SMBv1 or that will pose another issue.

That can sometimes depend on firmware installed. However; going by the link for your nas I gave earlier I came up with this list. The largest disk they connected officially was 4TB. Given 2 disks, the safe assumption is you can theoretically max out at 8TB (RAID0 2x 4TB disks)

Thanks, i'll probably stick 2 4's in it. Reckon it would be faster via lan than my USB3 external dynamode slot in caddy?

If anything else its atleast cooler accessing files over the network.
