Upgraded from a 1060 6gb to 5600xt. Ill keep this pretty straight to the point. The fps drops, screentearing, flashing within games is unplayable. The performance in things like furmark oddly is fine. Temps are good. Clocks are boosting and all good. Ive tried different versions of drivers. Ive tried reseating card, its definitley okay. Everything on those ends are okay. There is either an issue with the card, or im overlooking something signifigant, but not obvious. Its an older board, but i dont imagine it not being pcie gen 3 would cause these insane issues since my 1060 6gb runs perfectly fine. GPU utilization is all good. Everything seems okay, except the insane visuals and low performance in games.

Any ideas?

EDIT: To clarify, im cpu bottlnecked, but the performance is low to the point of error giving 1/2 - 1/3rd of worse cards. Its not performance within spec or anything close, certainly an issue.

EDIT: In static benchmarks, everything seems good at least in furmark/userbenchmark. The issue seems to be specifically loading new textures with the card where things become a real issue.

I personally don't know if those apply as reliable. I think most here would use 3DMark or Unigine Superposition. If you're able to bench with Superposition (it's free!) what happens?

Stoked to read the system is at least up and running.

If you used DDU already, then my guess/presumption is that you are using a mining card that is ragged out. You can underclock it significantly first core, then also memory if need be, to see if it runs without graphical corruption. Temps mean nothing if the GPU and/or memory is physically nerfed.

Way too vague without seeing figures/screenshots/video of the actual performance figures, take a GPU-Z screenshot of the sensors tab during gameplay, you are hugely bottlenecked by the old SB platform, but you haven't really given proper information only that it is not performing as you expect it to....

12 year old CPU, PCI-E 2.0, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a hard drive for storage are all recipes for piss poor performance with any modern GPU and games

Indeed i have. Ill run it once more. My next move is to try a gen 3 slot since thats about where im at with diagnosing.
Is this a new GPU or second hand
Second hand indeed, but from a very reputable seller. One that does its own testing very well, and i do indeed have a warranty.

Its really hard to call it corruption, as its not really artifacting. Just a lot of odd things happening, that im struggling to explain well. Screentearing, flashing, but mostly the texture rendering and often times stagnant fps in games like fortnite are far far worse, 40-60 fps vs 140-200. Games like diablo 4 actually have better fps when standing still, but struggle with the same terrible fps drops to the point of unplayable.

One of my first guesses, was even though the sensors and all were working. Even though the gpu was recongnized and benchmarks ran fine, I thought it was a seating problem maybe. I reseated the card and it did improve the issue, but not to the point where its okay or anything close, and ive 100% triple checked to ensure card is correctly seated.

Ill do that actually if the file size isnt gigantic, im on some pretty bad download speeds atm. I'll post back with results.

Lastly, I have a board with pci gen 3 sitting on a box right now after this message and a benchmark test where i can provide a bit more information and get a better test to compare results.

I updated my system a little. I have an ssd, 16gb ddr3. I will work on providing more information, in my post I was simply trying to go over all the things i have indeed tried. I understand if you dont want to offer help without trusting that the bottleneck is not causing these issues and its certainly an error or problem. Could be user error. But its not the bottleneck when I have used a 1060 6GB and gotten 3-4x the fps with none of these issues. I dont expect insane performance, I expect it to perform normally. If you dont want to offer help without trusting that, thats okay.

Even if it's redundant I'm going to run DDU and uninstall not only Nvidia drivers again but all drivers then reinstall. I'll also run a better static benchmark that will give some better information, then I'll put something together to test a 3.0 slot just to say I tried. The test will be a Ryzen 1400, 16gb ddr4.

No need to be on the defensive, if you don't think my post was helpful ignore it, but it's basic stuff you should cover without just saying it doesn't perform as well as this GPU or that GPU. your best bet at this point would be to try it in another system if you can, preferably one with at least pcie 3.0 and if it exhibits the same behaviour then you should take up your warranty on the card and swap it for another.
Also as you have flashed the bios with several different ones as you have stated in your first post it might help to post up pictures of the white sticker on the back of the card and a GPU-Z screen shot to determine if you have the correct bios on it at this point,..

That was actually a typo. Bit overwhelmed this morning. Meant to say drivers. Thanks for pointing that out. Card is with the bios shipped. I'll provide a screenshot though momentarily. About to reinstall drivers after again removing Nvidia and amd drivers. Then I'll be back with a screenshot.

Might just pay to return it then because it sounds like it has some bad issues

Oddly, the driver stuff seemed to help. But its still awful. Dropping to 3-5 fps upon entering game, and 60-80 fps in zones if I dont move where I was getting 140+ before. This is after the things ive done which have oddly seemed to help, one was pulling it out, and reseating. Two, was wiping all drivers and reinstalling. I have no idea why these things helped, but they were the only two things that gave a difference. I'm going to run a better static benchmark now, then swap boards.

EDIT: The bus interface in gpu-z shows its running at 3.0 even after running the render test? Board is a Asus P8P67 and it is 2.0.

LOL you seriously need to update GPU-Z.

Doing that now and reporting back lol. I updated CPU-Z yesterday after forever and I guess I didnt notice the gpuz update needed. Ive been using other tools mostly that are updated. HWinfo, AID, whatever AMD software this is.

Also, I had a ''clock watchdog timeout'' blue screen last night after just running vlc for a few hours with like 480p old episodes of stuff. Hasnt happened again, but thought that may be of note. Never happened before.

Thanks :toast: I forgot the forums here let you put it as a drop down under your Avatar instead of having to use your signature field to do it.
You're welcome. The specs do not appear when mobile browsing, so there's that.

I updated my system a little.
Are you still using that EVGA 600B power supply from your profile? The original B line is among the worst rated PSUs in terms of quality. My advice is to replace it with a quality unit ASAP. You need clean stable power before any troubleshooting can take place.

Then you should exercise your warranty because that card is defective. You ran DDU before installing Adrenalin which is all you need to do for the card to run properly. Remember that even reputable sellers aren't perfect and this is a good case-in-point. I think that you should send it back for a replacement.

The more time spent fixing a broken card the less time there is to rma

The more time spent fixing a broken card the less time there is to rma
But for the tech-savvy among us, isn't there self-realization in making things work? (Sure, some things may only work when RMA'd :D)

Once out of warranty you can repair it or send it off.

Benchmark Scores Nyooom.

Userbenchmark is absolute trash, it's basically a giant ad to sell you things from affiliate links - and the owners quite, quite insane.

Clock watchdog timeout can rarely be caused by driver issues but usually its CPU instability - your CPU overclock is going to be pushed a lot harder with a more powerful GPU, so it's going to need to be re-tested and verified as stable.
A faster GPU pushes the CPU harder which pushes the VRMs harder, which also pushes the PSU and the case cooling harder, so everything in the case gets hotter (VRMs, RAM, PSU, etc etc), voltages droop slightly lower, and so on.
It's one change, that changes everything
Your mention of loading textures being the issue implies the issue may be RAM stability related, since thats where it gets copied from.

Run testmem5 (run as admin, reboot, run again and load a config with heavy in the name)

I still have a 2500k system here, SA voltage was critical to getting RAM speed stable at higher clocks but once it was adjusted 1866 was easy (Same board ran 2400 with a 3570K)
I had instability in summer that was caused by the RAM itself overheating - but it took heat from the CPU and GPU to get it hot enough for that to happen. A single 40mm fan solved that.

A screenshot from HWinfo would do great for helping, but do something like unigine heaven + cinebench R23 at the same time so we can see how it handles all the heat at once... and keep in mind older systems dont have VRM or DRAM temp sensors exposed to software, so you'll need a thermal probe or fingers to check those out.
