It is backwards compatible and reduces the speed on the fly as the encoding remains the same 128b/130b. This only affects the PCIe slot bandwidth of 15.754 GB/s instead of the full speed of 63.015 GB/s. This does not affect real world performance much.

Idk what kind of GPU you have right now, but given how much x70 GPUs have increased over the years since Pascal (GTX 10), the performance bumps have not been crazy...
For example the GTX 1070 released in 2016 and the RTX 4070 SUPER released in 2024 and it only went up about 3x in 8 years lol. The 10850K is a CPU from 2020 so a 5070 shouldn't be too bottlenecked imo, and even less with MFG since the frames will be added by the GPU anyway...
