I'm worried there is some kind of compatibility I'm unaware of that I need to take into account before I buy some heatsinks to throw on the new 5850 otw now.
Could someone please recommend me some heatsinks for that card?

New or used is fine I suppose, but I prefer new since the cost won't be bad anyway.
I tried looking in the BSTG forums but it's slim pickings I guess and I'm very impatient lol.
Could any of you guys recommend some good heatsinks I can use?
thanks a bunch. :toast:

are you looking for a full cover aftermarket heatsink for the 5850? are you at all interested in watercooling? honestly from what i have read the 5850's dont get very warm at all so i dont think there is a need for aftermarket cooling unless you just want some bling

Well I intend on volting it up as it's a reference model. I just would like to keep is as cool as possible for longevity and resell purposes.
I'd like to take steps to keep any product I may sell, in as good of a working order as possible. :)
Not looking to go into water cooling but ty. I have no idea what a "full cover" HS is..lol.
Should I look into that or just some small individual heatsinks? Not sure what would even fit properly as well.

Anyone,? come on..lol.. What kind of heatsink can I use on a 5850?
How many should I get? I could really use a heads up on this.
I'll go with whatever works best as a heatsink, a "full cover" one or anything. Just want to keep the new card nice and cool.
I have absolutely no idea what to buy for this, but I want to get comfortable doing this on my own, so I don't have to bug anyone next time I have this question. XD

Batman cooler is more than good, volting up will certainly kill your chips faster, new heatsinks or not due to electron migration. I believe that you wouldn't need any new heatsinks if you are going to volt it up to a safe limit, the 5xxx chips are cool.

It's that good huh? Well, I know how to watch my temps, so I guess I can see how it goes.
Regardless heat=age, less heat generally=longevity. If there are any sinks I can use that will work I would like to use them. Besides they do look pretty. :P

It's quite good. It is a bit louder than I like though, which is why I am considering some aftermarket cooling.

I use the 4870\90 version of these and it's very good for the regs.

For the memory i used some screw on ones so i did not have to stick crap to my v card although i don't know if this would fit or if they do one for the 58xx range

Here's another link for the VRM cooler cheaper to

NP, i used to use a Scythe MUSASHI which did very well considering well after putting my own fans on it that is and they updated it now apparently so it fits the 58xx range too.

How ever i did mod mine for better air flow over the VRMS.

I did change mine to the Prolimatech MK-13 but with it's fins being so close air flow though the heatsink is not as good ( been thinking about modding it but not had the time to do so ). Although this cooler is much heavier than the Scythe MUSASHI but never lets my GPU over 48c during heavy gaming. But be warned this cooler is MASSIVE and even more so with fans.

Ahh ty for the info once again. I have 2 pci cooler fans as well though that will snug up perfectly next to the vga cooling, I think it will work out very well. :)
I intend on removing the plastic casing as well.

Wow, that's pretty, I almost want to buy it anyway..lol
