So I was trying to get malware out of my pc and I accidently set my user account from administrator to standard user. Now I can't access any files which requires administrator permission and I want to revert it back. I saw some people saying to type the "net user yourname /add" "net localgroup administrators yourname /add" command in the command promot when in the troubleshooting at the start of windows but that didn't work. I do not how to change it back to admin. Much appreciate help on this. OS : Windows 11 Pro Version:23H2

If you never unlocked the default admin account, you will probably need to use rescue media.

According to this you can use the default admin account in safe mode, seems a bit too easy, but maybe worth a try.

oh yeah this worked. I really thought I had tried this xd
btw any idea how can I remove malware from pc? I ran different anti virus scans (malwarebytes, windows defender Offline, hitmanpro). I really want to make sure that all of the infection is gone, someone recently had used my steam balance and purchased a item.

The only sure way really is a new clean OS install, if you had ran a scan and it found and cleaned something, then you could depending on your risk tolerance, flow with it, but if you in no mans land, just do whats safe.

You know how the malware got on the machine in the first place?

I think I got it from the web extension steaminventoryhelper since there are some reports people having the same case or from a game I downloaded from steamunlocked.

There was a netflix enhancement extension I used to use, it was one of those that started legit, but then got sold to a new dev, and the unsafe extension update system, updated me to the unsafe version, the sign of leakage, was my language kept changing in netflix, recent watched content etc. I think the leakage was just netflix, so got rid of the extension, and changed netflix password, now days, I specifically limit what extensions auto update and try to install from trusted github repos only when possible.

What makes you think the issue didn't stem from Steam?
