Noob question extension for pc headset

I've got a Sennheiser game one headset. It plugs into the back of my pc. One green cable and one pink.

The cable length is 9 feet. I need to extend that length by another 10 feet for my vr setup.

I've found some answers online but I can't see how any would work. I'm a visual person and I don't see how a 4 pole extension into a headset splitter would work. Can someone explain how that would work?

I presume you are using a 1/8" TRS Plug or is it a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter?

I've got this headset.

So if I'm not mistaken the cable my headset uses is a y split at one end (3.5mm pink ans green) and I'm quite sure the other end is 2.5mm and fits directly into the left cup of the headset

Ok so you have a separate plug for the stereo audio and the microphone, and that smaller plug goes straight into the headphones

You will need a TRS jack to TRRS Plug, then to a TRRS Jack 10 foot cable back to a TRS Stereo and TRS microphone plug to go into pc

Thanks for the links much appreciated. But I need my headset which is currently 9 feet long (cable) to become about 20 feet long.

Those splitters you linked are only 1 foot long unless I'm mistaken. How do I achieve the length needed?

Geeksquad to the rescue lol. Experience I have. Anyways I hooked my Sega Genesis (Megadrive) and Dreamcast using RCA cable splitter (RWY) to a RCA VCR back in 2000 which output to a GE TV with only coax, that TV had the best color. The Coolest part is I could record my gameplay footage back then, this was before You-rube lol.

you shouldnt need to do this at all as every VR headset i've used use a 3.5mm TRRS jack allowing you to directly connect to the headset

Just buy a TRRS splitter and connect direct to the VR headset, or if it's TRRS natively just plug it in

I don't think anyones suggested this because you didn't state what VR headset you have

Installing your own headphones (vive.com)

You need a USB-C to 3.5mm TRRS adaptor, they're quite cheap
The headset already has mics built in, your choice on whether to use those or your headsets


Random amazon example, a lot of modern smartphones ship with these so you may already have one

Yes. I didn't realize I could until someone mentionned there was a usb-c pass-through in the headset itself.

That adapter ended up NOT working. The only one I've found that works is my wife's cell phone adapter. She's got a Huawei p20 pro and she's got a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter and when I plug that in. I've got sound but obviously I got no mic. Thought the adapter I had found on amazon would work...

I'll get it returned and try to find another that works

Theres more than one kind
TRS is audio out only, TRRS is 4 pole and supports a mic.

Theres two kind sof those adaptors - ones that pass through existing analogue audio, and full digital DAC's - a USB sound card.
The vive 2 pro claims to support both, but i'd say your issues have come from using the passthrough audio and expecting it to support more than it does


Theres two articles on the official website about this

#1: replacing the built in stereo speakers using the USB-C passthrough
Nothing is mentioned about microphone support via this method
Installing your own headphones (vive.com)

#2: Using a USB audio device (still on type C)
This shows as an audio device on the PC, so you have to actually set that up yourself in windows.
Connecting a USB device to the VIVE Pro 2 headset

Theres a help page here clarifying both methods are supported on the headset
There's no audio when I use my USB Type-C headphones. (vive.com)

• If you have analog headphones, remove the headset earphones, and then reconnect your USB Type-C headphones.
• If you have digital headphones, check if the headphone driver is installed on your computer.

Many that come with phones don’t actually work on other phones or PCs

Making it clear that phone bundled ones can be proprietary - apples ones for example play really quiet on other devices

One comment stated the google adaptor works for audio and mic
