Yeah, Datacenter and Gaming were neck and neck only a couple years ago, although Nvidia has been pretending they were predominantly serious company, not toymakers.

Fake it 'till you make it!

That's also why we can't have nice things. Even that small blue sliver of non-datacenter isn't "Gaming" any more, and is inflated so it doesn't look as abandoned as it really is.

Suck to be a forever victim I guess, I'm playing just fine on Nvidia gaming GPU and using ChatGPT to help with my workflow

Victim?

Four and a half years ago I bought an RTX 3080 just before cryptomadness drove the prices to stratosphere. In Europe it seems in 2025 you won't be able to purchase a card for similar price that's faster - RTX 5070 Ti, a $750 card is more than 1200 EUR here, which also places a coming RTX 5070 at nearly a thousand euros.

Should I rejoice on how long my purchase will remain a competitive one, looking down at buyers that are now calculating on which choice sucks less?

A lot of people trying to justify Ngreedia, I see.
Stockholm syndrome at his finest.

And for those "finance experts" who pretend 5-10% of sales to be "irrelevant", get a hand calculator and make the proportion of how much Nvidia 3 billion market capitalization will lose without that 5-10%.

Also, that EV part is only going to expand!
I must have missed it because I didn't see anything about 'EV' on that chart.

Nvidia has bigger fish to fry than the gaming market.

Data Center
  • Fourth-quarter revenue was a record $35.6 billion, up 16% from the previous quarter and up 93% from a year ago. Full-year revenue rose 142% to a record $115.2 billion.
  • Announced that NVIDIA will serve as a key technology partner for the $500 billion Stargate Project.

Even that gaming GPUs are not really GPUs intended for gamers. China have been using Singapore to smuggle in Nvidia's forbidden fruit. Of course, Nvidia and Singapore refutes this, but take a look at the graph below. Nvidia loves money, doesn't matter from who it comes. China loves Nvidia's hardware, doesn't matter through where it comes. It's win for both.

Biden established restrictions on Nvidia's chips export to China in 2022. Before 2022, Nvidia had no revenue in Singapore. Then in 2022, revenue magically emerges out of nowhere and keeps surging, in Q2'24 beats even Nvidia's revenue in China. So much for restrictions. Imagine how many RTX 4090 (non-D) as well as restricted neural accelerators got smuggled through Singapore ... To train DeepSeek.

Shouldn't you be happy that your 3080 can play any recent AAA games at good FPS and visual quality with DLSS4, that you really don't have to upgrade at all?

Tell me why you should upgrade to the newer 5070Ti, when you think all the new features are gimmick anyways?

I wasn't thinking just of myself - I am wondering where did all the advancement go, if 4.5 years and two generations later certain amount of cash only brings you the same performance - or as we see with scalper prices, not even that?

I'm far from even thinking about upgrading. I'm not paying 1650 EUR for RTX 5080, and anything less wouldn't be a noticeable step up.

There has never been a better opportunity for AMD. Nvidia just left $700 million on the table this last quarter due to lack of gaming products to sell. ALL THE STARS HAVE ALIGNED. Yet somehow, I think some delusional VP is gonna f this up big time for AMD.

Oh so it's not about you, but you are crying on forums for people who you don't even know? Weird hobby I guess.

Oh well I can go back to my gaming sessions now, gaming ain't that bad with rtx4000 series

My hobby, besides gaming, is also following tech news, and maybe writing a comment here and there. What are yours? Crying about people who in your opinion shouldn't be critical on recent events?

AMD is in similar position as Nvidia - they are also constrained by certain amounts of TSMC products, and rather than making a whole bunch of low cost GPUs they will dedicate most of their runs on products with far greater profit - server CPUs. GPU is more of a side hobby.

If by any chance they release their new cards with good pricing and good performance, the scarcity and market laws will put them in their place.

Says the poster who can't fathom the fact some of us on here actually served in the military (yes I remember that post). As far as the 5080 being the only step up from the 3080 worthwhile ....

Yeah no it's CUDA which has established a virtual monopoly for Nvidia in DCG for now, nothing to do with vision

It's like how there'd probably be no Mx series chips from Apple if Intel hadn't denied them in the early days of smartphone!

Sure, but in this case AMD only has one chip to produce which is about 350mm2 vs an at least two different chips from Nvidia including the >600mm2 5090. AMD also had a long time to produce these cards and get them to vendors, since it is well reported that they have been getting stock since CES in early January. So Although they should sell out, even at $700, they should not be completely scalped away within 5 seconds.
At this moment I do believe AMD is probably allocating more capacity for the gaming market than Nvidia, or at least they should, because $700 million less revenue for Nvidia is quite a large amount of market for AMD to capture.

I don't think so, battle for server CPU space is still much more lucrative, and there AMD isn't facing just Intel.

The AI gold rush will fare just like the last(current?) crypto crash, probably not as bad in terms of % but it's getting there. Let's see what happens in the next quarter or two, if "AI" customers cut down their orders Nvidia will be left with a lot more than a bloody nose o_O

I don't think so, battle for server CPU space is still much more lucrative, and there AMD isn't facing just Intel.
A lot of the top Hyperscalers are designing their own custom AI solutions as well, that's probably a bigger risk (for Nvidia) given EPYC is still the best server chip out there.

EPYC is also relatively less expensive than what Nvidia's gouging with their own racks, combining their own ARM server chips with Blackwell or Ada.
