nVidia GT1030 shows as PCIe 1.1

Hi everyone.

I installed an nVidia GT1030 card (PCIe x4 v3.0) in my old HP Benicia MoBo, which supports up to PCIe x16 v2.0.

However, GPU-Z shows: Bus Interface PCIe x4 1.1 @ x4 1.1 (see screenshot below)

I am not concerned about the x4, since the GT1030 is a x4 video card, but I do not undertand why it shows (and runs) as 1.1 instead of 2.0

I tried switching back to my old Radeon HD 3650 card, and it also shows PCIe at 1.1 instead of 2.0 (where both MoBo and Video Card should support 2.0).
I tried unplugging and replugging the video card to the PCIe x16 slot to no avail.
I already tried the render test to check if it was a power saving issue, but it isn't.
By the way, I believe that the real issue is that the Bus Interface is shown as "PCIe x4 1.1" rather than "PCIe x4 2.0" on the left hand side.
I assume that power saving would have impacted the right hand side "@ x4 1.1" instead.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Power saving, most likely. Use the question mark next to the entry about bus speed to run a small graphics test to put some load on it. Should ramp up to pcie x4 2.0.

Already tried, but to no avail. I believe that the issue is that it shows the bus interface as "PCIe x4 1.1" (vs "PCIe x4 2.0"), rather than it is running "@ x4 1.1".

Any other suggestions?

Socket 775 Motherboard?
Most likely PCI-e 1.1
Your Motherboard has 1 PCI-e 16 and 2 PCI-e 1 slots?

If it's that G33-based board, it only supports PCIe 1.1.
Also, gt1030 only uses 4 lanes. Combined together - that's your answer.

Thanks for the quick reply.
These are the specs: https://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/Asus/Asus_IPIBL-LB-Benicia-GL8E/6 (however no reference to the PCIe version is available on the HP site)
Here it's shown as PCIe 2.0
MoBo has 1 PCIe 16, 2 PCIe 1 and 1 PCI slot

Thanks, so I assume the info on the pc-specs site was incorrect, since the G33 chipset only supports up to PCIe 1.1.

So, having a video card using only four lanes is not ideal in this case. What could be a best replacement, and would it make sense to upgrade?

Here it's shown as PCIe 2.0
There are also websites that say aliens are real, Hitler killed president Kennedy, and Trump is an illegitimate child of Elvis Presley and Jabba.
Just because someone says something on the internet doesn't mean it's true.

The most reliable info is always a manufacturer.
HP says it's based on G33 chipset.
Intel says G33 only has a total of x16 PCIe 1.1 lanes.

Absolutely right! Got it.

Would it make sense to change video card to get a real x16 lane one? If so, any suggestions?

The only thing that makes the most sense is stop using lga775 in 2020.

TBF his GPU is well matched with his CPU and can still be useful, case in point I bought a SFF HP LGA 775 machine for spare change and upgraded it to have 8GB RAM, GT 1030 LP, 120GB OS SSD and Q9550, it runs everyday tasks fine mostly thanks to the fast OS loading time from the SSD, the ample 8GB of RAM and the quad core, this is my son's PC he is also able to play fortnite at low 1080p settings at 60fps

While they have some use, they are energy pigs for what they are.

If on a extreme budget sure, but even then, I'd strongly consider other options first, unless as stated, "Nostalgia"

Also agree, I think I calculated the cost of the unit, CPU, RAM, SSD, HDD and GPU ran me £135 in total and I upgraded 2 such systems (1 actually has an 2nd gen i3 and ddr3 so is even better value) but in contrast not long after that I also built an APU system that comprised of the Athlon 200GE, 8GB RAM, PSU, motherboard, case, HDD and at that config it cost around £170 obviously these are new parts, modern and with warranty, the GT 1030 in the SFF has an advantage over the Vega 3 IGP but apart from that there's not much in it, bear in mind the APU system you can at a later date upgrade to a Ryzen, put a full size GPU into it and have a somewhat decent rig for 1080p gaming without having to set everything at low settings unlike the SFF, so yes, it was very budget orientated at the time but for £40 more you can step out of 2010 and step into 2019.

Coincedentally that aforementioned APU system is what my current PC (specs listed) started life as and I have continued adding and upgrading it gradually until it is what it is today, long story shory I sold my last gaming rig and couldnt afford to build a decent specced one to replace it so did it month by month until it is what I have in my specs now, and the only original part still in it from when I built it is the motherboard.

Apologies for the long winded post lol

Power saving for PCIe drops the number of lanes only not the entire PCIe standard.

Other way around I am pretty sure, though I've seen some bioses do it that way that's not standard protocol for APSM.

Guys, it has nothing to do with power saving. As I said earlier, the card itself only has 4 lanes.

My issue with 775 is not performance, but age and lack of modern features. These are way past the life expectancy for nearly all components, not just caps. I stopped taking these for repair in my workshop a few years ago. I don't even take these boards and systems for free anymore, cause I'll run out of space in the office in no time.
I understand that LGA775 is cheap, but Sandy Bridge cpus/boards/systems are dirt-cheap as well (on-par with older stuff). Haswell is getting cheaper by the day. I think you can get something like refurbished Lenovo M73/E73 for under $100 (base config, i3-4130, no HDD). I'm looking at one right now for $85. A "fat" config will set you back probably $150.

not long after that I also built an APU system that comprised of the Athlon 200GE, 8GB RAM, PSU, motherboard, case, HDD and at that config it cost around £170
Funny that you've mentioned that. Puny 35W dual-core Athlon 300GE offers nearly double the performance of Q9550. And if you bump it to a recently-released 12nm R3 1200 - that's more than triple.

That's a really low end card, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Dude, we're talking PCIe 1.1 speeds here. Even sDDR4 variant of that card is going to be gimped by sub-1GB/s real bandwidth.
