pressing power button on, it takes:
7 seconds before antyhing shows. there is a dash - character on the top left corner of the black screen (it doesnt flash), then
when its 23 seconds, the bios screen shows, then
at 24 seconds windows logo
at 36 seconds its on the desktop

im curious what is the dash character on the top left of the screen doing?

I thought id see the bios screen first right away, then the windows logo as its loading. but the biggest delay is showing me nothing but a black screen and a "dash (-)" charactor for 23 seconds.

my older i7 6700 boots in 30 seconds so why is the newer ryzen taking longer and the suspicious dash sign.

i7 6700 also had the same sata ssd

and ryzen pc was msconfig tweaked to remove things for startup

Why it bothers you? During the old days we tend to edit the first VGA Bios message post in rainbow colors and skulls to freak our parents. It seems now the same applies to young people.

Use your PC.

It has to do with UEFI Legacy boot here IMHO...

Have you never disabled boot logo on any of your builds? That's pretty normal in the AMI POST process for a lot of boards when you do that, at least on the AMD side. Sometimes even with boot logo on (Gigabyte).

ime Ryzen has never been particularly fast at POST times, although it depends heavily on your specific setup. Drives, RAM choice (ie. IC), GPU can all have an impact on POST time. My fastest system remains my 4790K ITX build.

What you tweaked in msconfig has nothing to do with the cursor appearing.
