Unfortunately GN talks about ASRock UEFI/BIOS versions but nothing correlating to AGESA version. In the past UEFI/BIOS versions might be different between motherboards.
From what I gathered UEFI/BIOS update after AMD AGESA PI 1.2.0.2a might be problematic at least for ASRock boards with 9800X3D

Bugged firmware would be my bet at this point. I long for the days you didn't need to update UEFI/BIOS so much.

It was a summary news piece. All information takes together in a video. In my point of view a few days too late, as I read about that asrock 9800X3d topic a few days ago here already.

I dislike the statement in the video to not update the Bios. My asus mainboard x670 has a lot of security issues. This is a very bad advice.

Steve could have said instead. Please do not update the bios on an asrock mainboard with the 9800X3d until we have more facts.

Steve also mentioned some other mainboard brands but he focused than most only on asrock mainboards, the 9800x3d processors, asrock japan and the firmware version history.

He also explained well that some reddit posters are not that well educated. A dead cpu will not revive with another uefi version. a dead cpu will have no post at all. POST = power on self test - a part of the booting process - a part in time what your computer does when you turn it on.

Last time i stated it was some sort of bad overclocking. Steve barely mentioned that. Overclocking is not supported. Not a cpu issue - it is an user issue.

This was already written here in another topic

I just watched the video a few minutes ago.

I dislike the statement - do not update the Bios. My asus mainboard x670 has a lot of security issues. This is a very bad advice.
It's a catch22 situation with AMD. I want to update my UEFI to fix issues, but updating my UEFI might cause issues. Thank goodness flashback is pretty much a standard feature now.
Steve could have said instead. Please do not update the bios on an asrock mainboard with the 9800X3d until we have more facts.
True. More facts are needed. That video was messy in hindsight and arguably to prepare the audience for future clicks.

I must have missed it.

In summary: More of the same topics. Same reddit user - same error mode. Different pictures. Some posts I got the impression the user on reddit has no idea about dram overclocking. 3 or 4 news posts were most only sourced by "reddit" by some "unkown" "newbie" "computer user" with barely any computer knowledge. We also had that situation when someone was unable to put a cpu in the am5 socket and turned it on. (my impression so far with -- reddit vs techpowerup vs asrock vs am5 )

Sorry but no watching that video. No doubt it is another example of taking over 23 minutes to say something that could have been said in less than 5. :(

Anyone who watched it care to summarize for the rest of us?

IMO, newbies making mistakes is an opportunity to see how safety measures can be improved.

I feel like on first boot the motherboard should test the pins to ensure they are all properly aligned before sending voltage down the wrong ones. I feel like in general this would be useful for not just custom desktops but integrated products like laptops as well. There are instances where integrated products can be misaligned on the solder balls as well. Then again it should also be near impossible to install the CPU crooked. I feel like the socket design could be improved, I've never liked the idea that a single slip of the hand can cause bent pins in LGA designs (at least with the way we currently are required to install CPUs).

This is all techtubers in a nutshell, only with at least 5-10 mins of commercial endorsements on some of the worse ones running around.

Anyways, I'm with you. I just don't have time for that anymore.

I feel like on first boot the motherboard should test the pins to ensure they are all properly aligned before sending voltage down the wrong ones.

This is my point of view.

That INTEL CPU Socket which AMD copied is bad. Just bad. I replaced parts of the AM5 socket with a screwed one from Thermaltake. 8€ including tax and shipment well spend.

In my point of view, those am5 pins are more likely to get contact with other cpu contacts when the user is unable to properly place the cpu in the socket.
Less thermal paste residue where it does not belong. You see it already in that 1 year old picture. CPU stays in place.

AMD has a design problem with the am5 socket which are justified by some user handling. MY cpu will not move, it is screwed down. I trust screws more than this ordinary stock am5 socket.

the older am4 socket was more newbie friendly. Or let's rephrase it. A newbie would have bend pins and therefore prevented sometimes such fried motherboards.

You may read it yourself and than think about it please.
I classify that topic on igorslab as total nonsense in my point of view. I wrote there but I did not looked for any response.

DE: https://www.igorslab.de/amd-ryzen-9000-boot-probleme/
EN: https://www.igorslab.de/en/amd-ryzen-9000-boot-probleme/

The author claims to be
Chief Test Engineer at Cybenetics LTD

Ph.D. in Wireless Sensor Networks
Bachelor in Computer Science and Electronics

Never - ever touch a cpu on the pins or the contacts. use esd protection kit while working with electronics. Touch it on the side. there were too many unanswered questions. The hole topic on igorslab leads to an users faults in my point of view and a lack of proper training, understanding and education.

Well ive been through a few buggy bioses, so it could be possible but not seen any weird voltage behaviours yet.

I'm using a MSI MB and I get Code40 a lot with eh 9800X3D. Only work around is to cut power completely I've found . Otherwise it will continue stopping at Code40.

When the best desktop launch of the past 12 months was arguably Zen 5 non-X3D, solely on the merits of it being an actual launch with real availability (not a paper launch), not a significant regression in performance, and not being prone to melting, that's a big oof.

All of the complaints were isolated to Asrock Motherboards. And point too buggy BIOS originating from the Board Partner. This should be straighten out soon with a few rewrites.

I just have to say.. because I am not using one, nor have I seen one irl..

But that offset mount looks janky AF.

It seriously looks like something I would have cobbled together 20 years ago to use in a pinch, but someone is actually making money off it.

Crazy days man.

I don't mean any offense, its just madness to me.
