Old Sony Vaio Review

It was back in 2012 when I bought this laptop. At first I was fall in love with its beautiful look, clean design and its famous "VAIO" logo. Too bad for us Vaio ceased to exist today, but still I thought it deserve a review:

It has a full-aluminum back plate.

Supports both micro sd and Sony proprietary interface Pro Duo

Two separate 3,5" jacks for external microphone and headphone. Near the jacks, there is a USB 3.0 with charging function.

The manufacturer had spared enough room for cooling. Near the exhaust fan, there is an HDMI and VGA output.

One the other side, there are 3 USB 2.0 ports, DVD Super Writer

And the inside. Intel i7-3632QM processor has seperate copper pipe from AMD 7650M GPU in order to adequate cooling.

Two Dual channel DDR-3 1600MHZ of Total 8gb of Rams are enough for runinng the latest OS. (Windows 8.0 back then)

Bluetooth 4 with Wireless network card which supports up to 150Mbps max.

Sony's famous image sensor Exmor was used in this camera along with a monoaural microphone

It was bundled with laser engraved, white illuminated island-type keyboard with numpad.

It was 1100$ at the time it was purchased. It has a quite strong CPU, that still runs 4k videos without any interruptions today.

Meh, I still think that Vaio Pro 13 was the most bad ass Vaio ever made. It weighted only 1060 grams, had i5 4200U, 8GB soldered dual channel RAM, 256 GB PCIe SSD, 13 inch touch 1080p screen with high sRGB accuracy. Battery life was very good and it looked super sleek. It's 2022 and I would argue that it was one of the best ultrabooks ever made and it is still one of the lightest. It still had plenty of ports and for some reason NFC too. It was launched in 2013, but it looks so sleek and nice, has excellent ultrabook capabilities, that it could be launched today and sold rather well. It was seriously ahead of its time and frankly, do any current ultrabooks today weight less than 1kg and have at least 6 hours of mixed productivity battery life? I don't think so.

My dad has and still uses a much earlier generation Vaio that looks quite a lot like yours, with a Core i5-520M and GeForce 320M. It's one of the the first generation Windows 7 laptops, and actually the thing still trucks on rather nicely given its age.

1080p screen, too. Quite a nice machine.

Vaio still exists, but it is no longer a sub brand of Sony. It's now a company of its own.

Always liked the look of Vaios too, although I have never owned one. Maybe I should have gotten one in 2014 instead of a MacBook Air. I think they were good quality too, like MacBooks. I am surprised by the Kingston RAM. So far I have only seen OEM installed RAM by brands that actually make the flash memory themselves (Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, and Nanya in a very old Dell laptop). The WiFi card seems to be exactly the same one as I installed in my ProBook 645 G1 just a couple days ago (Atheros AR9462 + Bluetooth combo).

I doubt any laptop brand would compete with MacBook.. so you made the right decision
