PCH temperature problem

On my last thread here I asked for help with high CPU temps and throttling, I can now say that with Unclewebb’s help I managed to get stable CPU temps of 45c in idle and at least 83c while gaming.
But I now have a new problem which I’m not sure is ThrottleStop caused, but I have reason to think it is.
A few months ago when I still tried some undervolting options I made some tweak that caused the PCH temps to skyrocket, hitting 50c on idle and 90c while gaming.
Again I can’t remember which tweak was it but as soon I changed it, temps went back to normal, 40c on idle and 70 while gaming.
My current situation now on PCH is 50c~ on idle and 96c(!!) while gaming.
Any fix?

No one else has ever mentioned high PCH temperatures because of some setting they made in ThrottleStop. Post some screenshots that show the main ThrottleStop window as well as the FIVR and TPL windows so I can see your settings and what CPU you have.

As far as i know - TTS settings only work while its On. Close it and run HWiNFO instead, play some games - then monitor the PCH Temperatures. If your issue is present only with TTS ON and disappearing when it's Off - then it's worth looking into.

just checked, still persists with temps of 96c.
the thing i have good idle temps of 45c but as soon i open a game it just jumps to 95c~ somehow??
maybe it could actually be a software bug?
if it's not ThrottleStop i guess its not the forum to ask but i will be glad to have help with this issue as it kinda of worrying..

The majority of ThrottleStop settings including voltage control work whether ThrottleStop is on or off. The Turn On / Turn Off button is only used for older functions like Set Multiplier and clock modulation. Newer CPUs mostly use Speed Shift instead of Set Multiplier.

When was the last time you opened up your laptop, cleaned it out and replaced the thermal paste? You are running your CPU at a fraction of its rated speed. If your computer is instantly overheating, you have a cooling problem. Your ThrottleStop settings look OK.

I presume you already have the latest BIOS (if it's a bug - that's usually a fix). An Infrared Thermometer - could clear your dilemma - but that's still not common enough. Did you clean you laptop for dust, maybe even some re-pasting?! Tho, this usually helps with your CPU/GPU since the PCH is rarely actively coaled "in a laptop". Then again, if it's lacking any cooling solution whatsoever (sometimes it falls of - if a cooling pad and such) - can help to buy one (might find a tip about a compatible model in the Acer community - since there's over 50+ Acer predator Helios Laptops) - and add it yourself (or take it to a service - if this type of maintenance makes you uncomfortable).

Anyway, the reason why this can happen while gaming = be it the CPU/GPU is probably dissipating the heat on the PCH (or in that area). Btw, how's the SSD temperatures (i presume it's nVME)? The PCH can stand quite high temperatures as well - but "normally" it shouldn't get that hot (or generate high heat - even while passively cooled).

I didn't mean that button (i read somewhere that it's not that relevant anymore - so i ignored it ever since), but TTS being Opened (On) or Closed (OFF). :D It's why i said to try HWiNFO and use that for monitoring with TTS off (closed).

I have 2 NVME m.2 SSDs, WDC which has windows, and Samsung which has games.
WDC runs at 55c~ and Samsung runs at 33c~.
The WDC SSD sits above the PCH and covers a quarter of it, the PCH chip isn’t cooled by anything, no thermal paste, pad or heatsink.

I never repasted anything since purchasing the laptop(December 2020).

If you are forced to run your 10750H at the 36 multiplier to prevent it from overheating then there is something wrong with CPU cooling. If heat from the CPU is not being properly dissipated then this excess heat might be heating up your PCH.

Thermal paste does not last forever. Your CPU is running too hot. Try fixing that problem first.

Think of PCH as Intel's North Bridge which is located on the Cpu.

As stated, if the cpu runs hot, so will PCH.

If the cpu doesn't throttle (100c / 99c package) then just use the equipment as normal.

If you hit throttle temps, then probably repaste the heatsink as suggested above.

Hope this helps clarify the issue at hand.

I've seen nVME SSDs near the PCH - so that was part of the reason behind my question. Tho, those were running rather hot themselves. Yours have dencent temps. I presume they're sharing the lanes with the PCH as well (then again - while taking their possition into account - that's quite lickely). After handling the basic cleaning maintenance - if the temps are still high on the PCH - remove the WDC (Windows should be on the Samsung SSD - if you didn't switch it to WDC) - and test it just with the Samsung SSD. You could also run some stress/benchmark tests with the PCI GBE Ethernet Controller Disabled - till you find the culprit placing extra stress on the PCH. So far, your CPU getting hot enough to trigger PROCHOT while set to 3.6 GHz - shows a cleaning, repasting or worst case scenario - broken fan issue. And there's no software tweak or update - that can solve type of issues.

Do you suggest to transfer my windows to the Samsung drive?
Model names if necessary:
-WDC SN730 1TB(windows drive)
-Samsung evo plus 970 500GB

My bad, didn't notice you already mentioned that Windows was installed on the WD - and assumed it was installed on the Samsung (since Samsung SSDs are the most common in most laptops). You can remove the Samsung SSD then - and run a benchmark instead (as stress test - instead of a game from the Samsung SSD). But that - after you cleared the cleaning/re-pasting part - in case that doesn't help.

Bro you're hitting 80c at the TDP? When you're not even running near your stock clocks? Thermal repaste that right this moment. That's one major issue. Also if you really have to, get some k5 pro and try connect the PCH to the heatsink directly, or something similar.
