People Can Fly is thrilled to be working on Gears of War: E-Day, the next mainline game in the renowned Gears of War series, as a co-development partner with The Coalition. We are honored to return to the world of Gears of War, a franchise deeply embedded in our studio's history. As lead developer of the iconic Gears of War: Judgment and co-development partner on Gears of War 1-3, we have always been passionate about the series and its legacy. "Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love. We are deeply grateful for our partners' trust and support on this journey" says PCF's CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski.

"Gears of War: E-Day is not just our next major game; it's a return to what makes Gears of War games special and authentic. We're pleased to be partnering with the talented folks at People Can Fly who have been a part of our franchise's legacy for so long."—Mike Crump, Studio Head, The Coalition. "Our team at People Can Fly, made up of dedicated Gears of War fans, is pouring everything we have into creating an experience that will exceed expectations. While we can't share more just yet, we're eager for the day when we can show all the exciting things we've been working on" - says Guillaume Barry, Development Director at PCF.

Check out the announcement trailer from Xbox Games Showcase 2024:

Emergence Begins. Experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming's most acclaimed sagas. Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.

Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day delivers unprecedented graphical fidelity.

I am baffled that Gears manages to still receive new installments. Feels like the series is one of those relics of “waist-height walls, brown and bloom” period of gaming in the late 00s that should rightly be looked at with a “what the fuck were we thinking?” sort of view, but guess not. Don’t get me wrong, I sorta enjoyed GoW2 in Co-Op with a mate on my XBawks (I have no idea why I bought one. Fable? Maybe?), but this will be what, 6th or 7th game in the series? Does anyone even care anymore?

-Everything about Gears feels like it'd be good for 3 games tops, but they keep making them and people keep buying them so *shrug*

From what I can remember, that licence was a bit of a phenomenon back in the day, the first Halo sold 6 millions, the first gear 5 millions. Gears totally lost once halo 3 was out though.
