Hello,

before purchasing a reference PCB RTX 3080, i searched up and down for teardowns and reviews. didn't really see anything worthwhile. i bit the bullet and got a PNY RTX 3090. i'm not thrilled with it but it will do the job i need it to.

it's about the same length as the founders card, doesn't have the stupid 12 pin power plug in a stupid location, and it's not taller than the PCI-E slot. all non-reference 3090s are taller. for all these reasons, this is my only choice for the project i have coming up.

Notes from my teardown:
The board features two Onsemi NCP81610 buck controllers, which are 8 phase controllers. one controls vCore and the other the Uncore/secondary phases of the VRM. Memory voltage control appears to be handled by an Onsemi NCP81611, a 4 phase voltage controller. it is my understanding that these controllers can operate as analog or digital voltage controllers. I don't know how they are controlled here. There are 18 phases in total, 4 memory, 8 Vcore, 6 Uncore

My unprofessional hobbyist opinion is that these controllers (combined with through hole soldered electrolytic capacitors) are a less than ideal setup for a high end, high power GPU. that being said, I do not anticipate any issues with this card at stock settings and will continue with this build as planned. i used and overclocked higher power draw cards with far worse VRMs in the past.

i only got around to running one benchmark, i wanted to see how it stacks up to other 3090s. this card scored a 9440 GPU score in timespy extreme: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/16563515

PS: Techpowerup collects PCB shots of graphic cards, but it looks like they don't have this card yet. i took some good pictures and don't mind providing them for TPU's use.
