Ok just flashed my 6950 to 6970 Bios with Asus this time.
Is there anything wrong here ? I followed the steps from :
http://www.overclock.net/ati/923129-hd-6950-810-1250-mhz-shader.html

It says Your GPU voltage will now be 1.175V , should I play with the voltage or it should stay the same?
But the case is,they use 6950 bios-shader unlock, but I cannot apply that,so I went with Asus 6970 bios..

http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/11/02/13/e82.png

that's cause the video card is idle, so it doesn't need that much voltage for the task at hand.
open furmark right beside your GPU-Z and start the test, you should then see the voltage jump to 1.175v...

An unlocked HD6950 should show similar TDP to that of a HD6970 sometimes higher...

zhadlp you read my mind :)

from the table 6950 modded (i believe is that with shaders enabled ...)

will power the shaders but... I believe that will be not used by the driver, the driver still sea the card like a standard 6950. the bios of the bord will power-up the shaders, but this will be only for electrical part, the driver will not initiate any operation on that shaders...

so for that will must use a moded driver, in theory will be same like 6970 but at the gpu/mem speed of 6950. (this is not very hard)

the power is clear that will be more that 6950, the difference is a big science. (for that same people get paid) :)

In the end ...

I dont have yet an 6950, I only have a 6870. I dont what to influence same people to flash a bios or to OC the card. So what I say is just for information scope, for you to know what will be if...
and this before you do that. you must know that different cards have different specs...

my vote is Other...

All I did was unlock my shaders & keep the card at stock. Hopefully I wont see any damage from it. This is the one reason I didnt do any crazy bios modding on it

Wow.

I modded my 6950 to a 6970 Asus Bios, didnt even run any benchmark or game then I read about all those fried cards and I reverted it to my stock Bios.

Is it really safe to use a shader and voltage mod? Whats the safe road to go on right now? Have I endangered my card for those 30 minutes of flashed Bios with internet browsing? Am I asking too many questions? Whats the meaning of life?

In oblivion, some trees sometimes flash green and it definitely looks like it is being caused by the GPU, this also happens in some other games it is not constant it happens every now and then randomly. But then again I am using 11.2 drivers which to me are very buggy at the moment but after reading this thread it makes much more sense that it is being cause by the initial BIOS flash to 6970, i'll need to reset them back to stock when I get home :)

I unlocked my shaders & did nothing else to my card. All of a sudden my card is now Artifacting in almost every game. I have to RMA it now which sucks.

Yes I flashed back to completely stock bios. The bios that I used was just a shader unlock no voltage change or overclocking done at all.

The card artifacts huge at stock settings now. I just shipped it out this morning to RMA

did not vote ..

but my card is well ... very well :p

used w1zzard tools at first to unlock only shaders, and used CCC for 840 gpu speed..
then changed voltage of VID4 to 1175 and oc card at 900mhz .. using costum profile for the fans to keep GPU at MAXIMUM of 65C

i play GTA IV and CRYSIS atm all vid settings maxed no artifact or problem ever.. ever ever..

i never got memory higher then 1300...

within 6 month il start water cooling and oc a lot more :p
