So I'm rethinking my setup. I want the best performance for one ultra card resolution and features wise. I'm debating between the 980 TI and Fury X. I'm looking for the best resolution for each. Debating between g sync and free sync. Nvidia eye candy vs AMDs offering. High hz and all that jazz. Essentially the best having experience with one flag ship card.

That a tough decision overall when you look at something with a whole package experience. As for which is more powerful, the GTX 980ti is the most powerful single GPU (minus Titan X) available so looking at it straight from that point the choice is pretty clear. But looking at it from a package point of view here are my thoughts.

As for eye candy I would say its pretty even. You will not really see a difference and only opinions really run in that area. I have tried many and in reality they all seem pretty much the same (When comparing similar ones I mean) so from that angle I would just say just pick one.

For the GPU, the GTX 980ti is more powerful and more overclockable. However with DX 12 early tests show the Fury X to be ahead of the GTX 980ti but only time will tell if that will matter in a reasonable amount of time or at all. The other thing is the GTX 980ti has a much more robust selection of custom cooled cards (including AIO's) while the Fury X is currently limited to just the AIO solution. The Fury X can be had for cheaper with its AIO while you will pay more on the GTX 980ti for that though you can get better OC cards with air coolers so its up to you which one you like. If I were choosing between them, I would probably get a really nice OC and air cooled variant of the GTX 980ti like a classified and put a water block on it.

As for Freesync vs G-Sync. After playing with both I say they are basically the same thing. G-Sync right now is a little more consistent with having the lower range (to 30) while FreeSync generally stops at 40 (35 in some cases). But besides that they are basically even. There is a much more robust selection of Freesync monitors (Or adaptive Sync if you will) which tends to lend to the idea that Freesync/Adaptive Sync is more likely to be around in the long run and much more supported but that is still up for debate. Since Adative Sync is the open standard and is cheaper I personally prefer Freesync/Adaptive Sync since I am not spending as much to get the same experience. However, you are still restricted to one side currently no matter what you buy so its up to your GPU purchase. But a the end of the day, they are the same with one costing more but having a lower range while the other is an open standard with more variety of choices.

I really can't say which will have the overall best experience because its pretty equal all around. If I had to pick for a fresh setup just on the GPU side I would pick the GTX 980ti. However, if I am also talking monitors and everything I would have to say I personally would pick AMD just for the cost savings on both the GPU and Freesync. Ignoring Freesync, I would definitely pick the GTX 980ti but the overall cost savings of both the GPU and monitor is something I look at personally.

Heh, this should be good....

1. What do you mean by "ultra card resolution"? We need to know what resolution you will be gaming on to even get started. Are you eventually moving up to 4K?
2. I wouldn't worry about image quality between the two camps.

So, it depends, but Ghost has you well taken care of with the details... they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Their flag ship card. That's what I meant. I want the best resolution that'll give me the best performance. I want one of those fancy high he hz monitors. Probably 1440p most likely. Don't know if 2560 or 3440. Maxing at that resolution with high hz is my goal.

NOt sure you know what you are saying here, LOL....

So, Acer Predator at 2560x1440... check. Max the in game settings and get higher than 60Hz I think is what you are trying to get at...........

If you are goin to run 4K, then get two 980Ti's or Two Fury X. THe Fury scales better with a higher resolution right now. Pascal will likely change things in a few months when it implements HBM2. Unless you can plunk down $1.5K+ I would stick with a single 980Ti or Fury X at 1440p.

i would forget the 4K option.. you will need a pair of top end cards from ether camp for that..:)

plus the fancy high hz monitor will be wasted at 50 fps or lower.. he he

I have a 4k monitor but didn't really think it thru. For the price of two top end cards, I could get a single card and monitor. And probably some ram

So 2560*1440p is the chosen resolution. So you think Acer is the best in this range?

I agree, 1440p and 144hz is the best.

Freesync:
Acer XG270HU (I have this one)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4009769&cm_re=Freesync-_-24-009-769-_-Product
Acer XF270HU (IPS variant of above basically)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...083&cm_re=Freesync-_-0JC-000P-00083-_-Product

Gsync:
Acer XB270HU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009848&cm_re=G-Sync-_-24-009-848-_-Product
Acer XB270HU (IPS)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009742&cm_re=G-Sync-_-24-009-742-_-Product

There are plenty of others from Asus and such, but these normally stand out as good value and great performance monitors in my book.

I would select GTX 980 ti because it is faster and has 6GB VRAM . Which is better for 2K UHD and 4K gaming

Depends entirely on the game. For the most part, you'll be hitting ~45 FPS average in most titles with all forms of AA turned off. Some titles just run like ass no matter what you're running.

In most cases yes . If not just lower AA . Keep in mind it is the best card on the market for 2K gaming . The best of the best . Only Titan X is faster but it s not worth the money . Here i mean cards with a single chip .

Edit : i meant resolution 2560x1440

You should take a look at the benchmarks I posted (from TPUs review of a HIGHLY overclocked 980Ti) little cat. A lot of those already do NOT use AA and are under 50 FPS. It is title dependent. ;)

EDIT: Shoot, wrong thread... here: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_980_Matrix/6.html

Love it, I tried 4k (And still use it off and on) but I had issues in games like League (Mostly me having issues adapting or just scaling) and decided for the fast paced games I played the 1440p and 144hz was alot better. BF4 for instance is beyond fantastic on 1440p and 144hz, it actually added to the game for me which is why I really like it. The Freesync part just shows the game is always fast and smooth for me. I have tried with it off before and I would notice a slow down if it occurred while with Freesync on the game just keeps a smooth experience (this is my experience, same thing occurs on G-Sync FYI as I have also played on a 780ti SLI setup with a ROG swift monitor).

I'd wait for the new GPUs coming in a few months, they will be much better. But if you want to buy now, go with a 980 Ti, EVGA (SC ACX)/ MSI (Gaming 6G) or Asus (Strixx). Don't go 4K, it's too much for a single GPU setup. 1440K or 2880x1440p (21:9 resolution) with high Hz is your way to go. Gsync is a plus, but not a "must have", you can play very well without it too. The reason why I'd chose a 980 Ti over Fury X is simple, it has 6 GB of Ram, meaning it's much more capable of running games on high resolutions in the future, also it's clearly faster, up to 20%, depending on game.

CPU go with a 6 core 5820K or wait for Broadwell entry 6 cores (or take a i5 6500K/any i5 Skylake, that's the budget option). Ram 8 or 16 GB (16 GB if you take the 5820K), 16 GB will be better suited for future, 8 GB is enough for now. Mainboard: good quality, what suits to the CPU and a good ventilated case. That's it.

Titan X on 320x240 obviously for best performance.

Really, single card performance is just going for whatever that brand has best.
