Hello. I hope i've posted this correctly as it's my first post. This pertains to the system power LED light on the CASE. I have a steel legend b450m Motherboard and a Thermaltake v200 case. Everything on my PC is working and my PSU is delivering proper power to all components. My problem is, when the computer is off but the PSU is on, My system power LED is on. BUT, when i turn the computer on, the system power LED turns off. It's basically reversed. I can't find another person with this problem anywhere, and I've tried about 20 solutions. I have the PLED in the correct lead, but the light is on when the system is powered off. So there can be no soldering problems at the case, no power problems at the psu, something else is wrong here. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks very much in advance. Furthermore, I'll add that this systems power LED light worked perfectly before, with the same motherboard. I replaced the PSU and when plugging things back in this problem started. The PSU is Corsair CV550. The PSU reaches gaming loads and modulates varying amounts of power to the computer so i doubt it's the new PSU. Finally, I'm using a simple PLED+ and one PLED-. Does this case come with three PLED connections? My mobo manual shows two connections for PLED on the system control header, and 3 connections for something also called "PLED" right next to it. Is it possible there is a third power LED connector I can't find? I have restored original UEFI settings in bios and that didn't help either. Something really messed up is going on here. -I do not have the technology to show you how my leads are wired. However, they are done correctly according to the manual. I was hoping for out of the box solutions. NOTE: There are 5 "pled" connectors across two headers. three positive and two negative. The ones i need are the two on the system header panel and i know this. I'm just stating that the manual strangely has another set of pins (three pins to accomodate the old style) on the speaker header, whereas most mobo's just have the four pins for the speaker. All five pins work for the system power LED, however it's the same on when off problem. Let's be kind and polite, please.

Maybe you have a fake motherboard manual.

The English language version (from the AsRock website) shows the standard 9-pin front panel header:

b450-snap.png

with the customary four pairs of connections (HDD LED +/-, RESET SW, PWR LED +/-, PWR ON starting from pin 1). There is no third PLED connection on the motherboard. Pin 5 (GND) is often not connected to anything (I don't connect it in any of my PC cases).

Source: AsRock

I suggest you recheck the front panel leads from your case to make sure they are correctly connected paying close attention to polarity.

I have the standard 9 panel, then i have one for "Chassis LED" and speaker next to it, also standard. This "Chasis LED" is also marked with "Pled". This is the information i already have, although i thank you much. There are 2 pled leads and they can be turned four ways each. I THINK i've tried all forms of polarity, but I'll triple check. I'm wondering if reversed polarity can cause it to turn off when pc is on and on when pc is off. I've never heard of anyone having that problem. Remember, i'm not having a problem where the power led doesn't work, i'm having a problem where it works when the computer is off only.

I have the PLED in the correct lead, because the light is on when the system is powered off.
oh no. the light should be off when off and on when on.
My mobo manual shows two connections for PLED on the system control header, and 3 connections for something also called "PLED" right next to it. Is it possible there is a third power LED connector I can't find?
i don't know what you're looking at but for the case (from the manual)

Capture.JPG

those are 4 standard case connections. how about starting with just the PWRSW connected and go from there? look at the silkscreen (printing) on the mobo.

Thanks i've done that. I am %1000 sure that the pled- is in the pled- pin, and the pled+ is in the pled+ pin. it's getting power. I'm acutely aware that is should be off when off and on when on, because it was working like that before i had to re do it forr power supply. Let me ask you this question, if i had the leads wired wrong.... wouldn't it just not come on instead of coming on when the computer's off? Thanks you much for your help. Btw, what i'm looking at is the 9 pin standard header for the major case leads, and the one next to it for chassis led and speaker (like beeps from mobo) strangely, this is labelled as "pled+, Pled+, and Pled-" i think this is there for the old style 3 pin connectors. The main pled is power led, and the supplementary pled is "chassis led" . That's what i'm looking at in the official manual.

ok. sorry i misunderstood and underestimated your experience.

well thats two different things. the power switch can be wired correctly (turns on/off) but the LEDs are . . . different :ohwell:
they are dumb circuits that are on when the mobo has power. its the PWR and RSET switches that do any magic with their (+) polarity being connected to the PSU (24 pin PWRGD) for a simple C/NC switch.

all that SPK stuff is for if you have a speaker to hear the POST beep - just ignore it unless you're like me:
20220404_191909.jpg

it is stupid to use four pins when only two are needed.

I had to edit my post to say "I have the pled in the correct lead, BUT it's powered on when the computer is off" not "because." you were correct to think what you did because the grammar was wrong. also lol. Yeah we are on the same page. I just don't know why it labels the speaker pin connects the way it does. It's for the mobo beep speaker, and it also has an old style "chassis led" . See, i recently replaced power supplies and i had to re-do all the leads because i pulled them out by accident. it WAS working before for over two years. Something is fishy. If you ask me??? I think a minor short occurred when the power supply blew (it went from %100 working to dead overnight somehow). I think there is some kind of short. Also, let me add when i put the pled+ into pled+ and i put pled- into GROUND, it forces the light on all the time computer on or off. I hate that though. I actually really want my nice little blue system led power light.

So are you saying on the motherboard correct?

Or the case?

My signature rigs LED on the motherboard is lit with system off and off when system is booted which is normal.

Only thing is if yours has RGB and it's on with system off you have to change a S5 state relating to RGB.

It's a case system power LED. you're right on the money about the s5 state if it were mobo. (thanks man) I have the s5 turned off because on my steel legend mobo it has like 1,000 lights that i don't want. It's just boggling me! for a mobo light, yeah sure it can be on with the PC being off..... but case light being on with the pc being off? mannnn....

SPEAKER is usually a four pin Front Panel header very close to the main Front Panel header. It consists of two signals. The one I use is the outer two pins which provides the POST beep diagnostics.

I'm tired of downloading manuals about other people's hardware.

It would have been helpful to see what OP's case wiring is and how he/she has connected them to the motherboard but since that wasn't offered is a waste of time.

I hereby bow out of this discussion.

Grab your manual and and a magnifying glass, inspect the fp cables for shorts, and look closely at the fp header on the mobo, they are typically polarized. Pull all fp cables from mobo and try again

The best advice that can be given honestly. Thanks. I just did try #6. I'll have to do it all outside the case tomorrow. I was hoping someone had experience with certain PSU's causing this problem to be honest. Perhaps i should have been more clear about where my questions lie. I do apologize for being somewhat unclear. I was also unceremoniously informed that i should have included a picture of how i have my leads wired. I can't because i don't have anything good enough to take the picture.

meh, don't worry about it, being on a international forum, not everyone is perfect. truth is as i get older my reading comprehension fails now and again.

hope you get it sorted, i'm a bit befuddled. if your old PSU going out caused it, it could have been worse. but half the time i'm too lazy to plug in more than the power switch so no issue.

does the HD light work as expected? just asking.

Yes the HD light works perfect. I feel strongly that somehow the old PSU going out caused this entire problem. IDK why i'm so in love with my power led case light.... like you say, a lot of people don't like it and/or choose to not use it. For me, It tells me i'm in "gaming mode," and i just want it to work. If i plug my pled headers into the hd led pins, then that activates the blue light (hdd led is red) and it still flickers. Also, if i plug the HDD header into the pled pins, the red light comes on when computer off, off when computer on. Basically, the blue pled light that won't come on when the comp is on, can be turned into a perfect blue blinking HD light. So the LED and the header are %100 working, it's the pins at fault. For some reason the pled pins have power when off and no power when on. I wish i had a multimeter. Also, reset and of course power button work fine as well. something is telling my pled pins to not send power when the psu is on, and to send power when psu is off. I've spent days on this, and i don't think there is an answer. It's either my corsair cv550 psu, or i got some sort of weird short in the board.

well is that power pin is getting 5v (standby power creeping in?) and you have a fan to cannibalize for the header and wires:
ckt1-compressor-300x271.jpg
(warning: i am stupid with maths -though its a constant load- check that work!)_
you could do some ghetto modding from a fan header (on in bios). if you're crazy . .comfortable enough. at worse you're using bare (twisted) wire for the led plug. some Etape will help w/strain relief.

just spitballing.

I do not think so.
Modern systems has two output for Power status LED = two connection points = two LED in use
Your report of LED on at power off, this is possible if power off = sleep mode. ( such condition it is served due LED-2).

Read carefully entire User manual, for any additional functions due jumper pins, or due BIOS.

Gigabyte changed the no-HDD activity to flashing LED per second, at my motherboard.
Nowadays I have strong faith only to God. Anything else it can vary.

Thanks Kirakost. Yeah Tigger, for my mobo sleep mode is flashing. I've disabled sleep, hibernation, and fast startup. I just don't know why for 2-3 years my system LED worked perfectly. My BS user manual is like 3 pages and i've studied it relentlessly. I am warmed and humbled by the help attempts i'm getting. I will let it be known if i fix it. We have some good information on why the light could be on when system off (the 5v leakage theory. Which could also be the PSU like i thought. Perhaps the old PSU didn't do that, and this one does. I will add... that the HDD light is MUCH brighter with this PSU than the previous) but what on earth could cause the System power LED which is on when system off, to suddenly turn OFF when i turn on the pc? that's when it's supposed to be on.

The only thing I can think of is if the HDD header is hooked to the power LED. I know on boot the HDD led on most cases will be on then shut off then flash/flicker for any HDD/SSD activity.

Make sure polarity is correct.

when the HDD header is hooked to the power LED, the blue power led light flickers with HDD activity. Currently, it's a red light which is what it should be. My PC PLED=Blue HDD=Red (the HDD red light has proper activity blinks moderately with reads and writes,) i will not stop checking over and over though. I wish i could provide a picture. I'll be trying to whip that up. I'm still waiting for time to hook it all up outside the case. That may help me. I could have possibly hit the pins with a screw driver while clearing the cmos pins. Would that damage it??? The positive and negative PLED pins aren't supposed to be completed as a circuit as far as i know. The behavior is strange, and although no one can be sure until i show a picture, i'm "positive" i have it hooked up correctly.

It says the Uploaded video file is too large for the server to process. What should i do? is there a website i can upload it too, and send you a link or something? sorry, i'm uneducated and new to forums. Pics will be harder to do and i'll have to get on it later as i don't have much time now to edit the pics with text and indicators, as i will need to do.
