Razer's most recent addition to the market of lightweight mice, the Viper, is now available wireless as well. The Viper Ultimate combines the all-new Focus+ sensor, improved wireless tech, and a highly competitive weight of just 74g to compete with Logitech's current wireless flagship, the G Pro Wireless.

Razer quote 70 hours - but having owned the Mamba 2012 from them last**, the battery while gaming certainly does not last anywhere close to the specified time quoted. 16 hours gaming was quoted; 5-7 hours is what you'd expect to get from it.

Using my personal experience as a basis for this new Razer product, I can only assume the 70 hours quoted are on "stand-by" mode (aka turned on and awaiting user input) and will be significantly less while browsing OR gaming.

But, alas, it is still a good review.... however... buyer beware.

**and not another product after because it was so awful and failed to live up to what it claimed in just about every aspect - not just battery life - including usage distance.

My next mouse, currently I have a G305 with aftermarket PFTE feet.

Literally only downside to the Viper Ultimate is relatively short battery life compared to the G305 which easily lasts several months.

But then, all you need to do is plug the cable in when you're not using the mouse or dock it. I assume noone here games for longer than 20 hours straight...

I lack the controlled test environment that would be necessary to give any truthful assertions in that regard (not to mention that testing this would be incredibly time consuming). Please refer to page 6 (below 'Lighting') for further details.

Excellent review, friend could you do one of the Steelseries Sensei Ten please? My hand measures 17x8.8 cm and I would like to know if it is good for my grip that is a claw and palm hybrid.

Does Razer/Synapse still refuse to save RGB settings on-board after un-install / Still have to have it installed or else you get rainbow ?

5 profiles can be stored in the on-board memory. You do need to install Synapse for initial configuration.

I can confirm around three and half days from a full charge on mine.

Does it allow you to turn off the RGB then uninstall and keep it turned off.

Yes! I have my RGB turned off, which is probably why I can get 70+ hours from it.

I only did one full cycle though when I first got it. After that I dock it every 1 or 2 days.

I saw a review about the Basilisk ultimate not saving RGB settings once Synapse is not installed so wanted to know if the Viper was the same.

Yeah that's weird about the Basilisk Ultimate. It also has memory to store 5 on-board profiles and run without Synapse. I know the DPI, customized buttons and macros and RGB settings are stored in my Viper Ultimate since I switch between my laptop and desktop. I only had Synapse installed on my desktop for initial configuration then uninstalled it after.

The Sensei Ten review is already underway, I'm currently waiting on a new firmware (no ETA) however.

Have I failed to read correctly.. or is there really no TPU test on how long the battery lasts in various conditions of use?

I think the problem with trying to 'quantify' the level of battery life that one gets is that everyone uses their peripherals differently. Some people game more than others but then again some people dont. high DPi settings could also lead to extra power draw.

Its not impossible to quantify but a lot of work for something that is hugely subjective.

Cause Razer Viper Ultimate FAQ still has this.

Razer said:
However, you will need to install Synapse 3 to enable advanced features such as macro recording, profile settings, Chroma customizations and more.

I love the negative. "I don't like synapse"

I recently aquired razer keyboard, and even though the keyboard was excellent, I switched to a logitech on black friday because Synapse was a POS

Synapse is the bane of Razer equipment. The Chroma SDK service always uses 32% of my CPU (It's old though) I have to kill it in the task manager and they refuse to acknowledge the problem or add support in Synapse 3.0

Way too pricey for the performance and features offered. Not a great value..
Indeed that was pretty eye watering considering Razors less than stellar record for reliability and the software that’s unanimously hated.

Using my personal experience as a basis for this new Razer product, I can only assume the 70 hours quoted are on "stand-by" mode (aka turned on and awaiting user input) and will be significantly less while browsing OR gaming.

70 hours is quoted while actively in use and lighting OFF. The number would obviously vary with battery variances, usage styles and environments.

I saw a review about the Basilisk ultimate not saving RGB settings once Synapse is not installed so wanted to know if the Viper was the same.
Only On/Off states and brightness levels are stored to the profiles.

Synapse is the bane of Razer equipment. The Chroma SDK service always uses 32% of my CPU (It's old though) I have to kill it in the task manager and they refuse to acknowledge the problem or add support in Synapse 3.0
Of all Razer processes, Chroma SDK service is actually the least intensive process (used by external games/apps to take control of your device lighting). It shouldn't take 32% even on a Celeron-level CPU. I wonder if something on Win 10 enterprise (that you have noted as your OS) or another installed software is conflicting with the service.

Way too pricey for the performance and features offered. Not a great value..
I'd love to hear thoughts on where you think it lacks in performance, or what sort of features you find lacking relative to other competitive offerings.

Well I won’t argue it’s using top notch hardware available but not enough to be an advantage over similar specced options
