I‘m was running mine os, which is based on turnkey, on a fairly old hdd. I decided I wanted to clone it to a newer and bigger ssd.
I initially tried clonezilla, but I couldn’t get it to work. So I did a forensic sector copy in macrium reflect and then expanded the partition to the full size with gparted.

The issue is, the hdd was cloned as if it were full and on the new ssd the total storage the hdd had is now displayed as being used. I read about using fstrim to discard the unused blocks, but I couldn‘t find anything about how to do this, specifically for my os. Additionally I’m fairly new to linux, so the more general or technical explanations didn’t really help me.

Note: I know for a fact the hdd wasn’t actually full.

Does anyone have experience with this, or have a different suggestion?

Thanks in advance ( :
