so i would like to upgrade the gfx in the 2nd pc in my system specs and am looking for recommendations for it. The gtx 1650 is just too ancient and the 4GB holds it back alot, i was thinking an 8gb card but have to take the PSU of 500w into consideration. I wouldnt mind used gfx but in my city (kingston ON) any Nvidia card ie 4060, 3060. 3050 are vastly overpriced and on the AMD side ppl are asking 200-250 CAD for RX 6600XT. Im just at a loss as to how to upgrade on a budget when ppl overvalue old hardware.

any help or advice is appreciated :)

PS would also consider a 2nd hand purchase from TPU canuck users if that situation arises :)

How much is one of these your side of the woods?

Here's Canada computers prices on Intel cards, I'd prefer Amazon and affirm but they are almost 100 more on Amazon's site.

1660 Super/Ti is also at the EXACT SAME level as 3050.8 GB and decent step up from PLAIN 1650. Just it has 6 GB, but, even 3050 couldn't handle it's 8 GB well, so... as about RT, we all now, as about DLSS.. it's a matter of taste..... you could use AMD FSR or Intel version on any card...
I've had 1660 Ti/Super back days and now again with 1650. The difference is significant to notice.

Can't recommend an Intel GPU if it's on an older CPU...

anything under 500 bucks should be used imo.
you can get used 3080s, 4070 super, 6800XT etc. last gen high end is a better buy than these mobile abominations that we get now.

Those are all outside of my range for psu and case requirements. It's a r5 3600 in an omen obelisk 875. Generic 500w PSU.

Yeah, after seeing those results with older cpu's yes, I agree. Was just trying to think outside the box from the usual suspects.

Maybe it's a good idea to wait for the RTX 5050 that's coming out in a few days and see what that brings to the table.

I suppose your budget idea is then 100-150 CAD, is that correct? If so, I will then recommend GTX 1070 8GB (72% more powerful than your 1650 and has 8GB VRAM). RTX 2060 could be valid option too, yes it has only 6GB VRAM, but it supports DLSS. Both should be within your budget and 500W PSU is enough.

What games would you like to play? This should tell you if 6GB + DLSS is more suitable than 8GB w/o DLSS.

Ideal would be at least RTX 2070 8GB but it's most likely the same story as RX 6600 XT you mentioned - AKA too pricey.

RTX 2060 is still plenty capable, and at least over here they're plenty cheap.

This or used GTX 1080 (ti); or anything from Turing really you can get your hands on at a price (substantially- in case of a GTX 1080 I'd say half its price at the maximum) below the Intel B580. Its all ballpark same perf. 1660ti is pretty light, its like 1,5 tier down from a 1080, but if very cheap, meh, why not - 60-75 bucks max I'd say for that.
RDNA2/3 is another option, anything from 6600XT on up.

But yeah used market, and then comparing what it offers versus a new 5050 and/or 5060 with local pricing to reinforce your choice (or go new anyway).

Regular 2060 only have 6GB I wouldn't get that. If you can find 2060 Super for a good price, get that. It's a good card I still using it playing new games, or 2060 12GB but usually the one with higher VRAM is higher priced.

Your Ryzen 5 3600 would appreciate a higher clocked DDR4 RAM too, get it to 3200MHz or more (3600MHz is preferable) so it will be less stutter because of two CCX communicate via Infinity Fabric, this needs to be as fast as possible, but IF limit is around 1900 give or take. I know this by experience.

I'd seriously consider a B580 if it is available in your area. If not, I'd suggest looking for a 9060 XT 16 GB or a 7600 XT. If they're too expensive for you, then even a 4060, 5050 or 7600 would do the job, just the 8 GB VRAM could potentially become a limiting factor with later, or more demanding games.

So basically,
1. Get a B580.
2. If it's not an option, get a 9060 XT 16 GB or 7600 XT.
3. If they're not an option either, then a 4060, 5050 or 7600 will suffice.

Let's keep in mind a R5/3600 will be constrained by CPU rather easily.
B580 is suboptimal.
Ada and Blackwell likely aren't optimal either (more cpu overhead on dx12).

how much do ya want to spend?

RX 6600
I've got it for roughly 160$ and I have it paired with an R5 5600. Coming from an RX 570 (which is stronger than 1650) was quite the jump.

so prices locally in CAD are approx $200-220 RX 6600, RTX 3060 12GB $300-380, RTX 2060 $100-180 (the c note is almost an hour drive tho)

im really getting it up the arse on marketplace locally tbh, im almost better off grabbing a 3050 8GB for $299 approx on amazon lol
