Reservoir question.

Hi everyone Merry Christmas

I have a question

For a long time i have been using this type of Reservoir:

after installed i filled it up to the top

In my last build i decided to use a Cilynder Reservoir:

my question is: is it ok to run the new Resorvoir 50% full like shown in the pic below to do the filling action or it has to be filled up to the top like any other Reservoir?

I am no expert but those bubbles look like "cavitation" so I would say fill the reservoir to near full.

If it's constantly churning the fluid I'd top it off a bit, but should be okay for a while if it's not drawing air into the pump.

I'm no scientician either, but I'm pretty certain that this isn't cavitation, that only occurs when there's a very sudden and dramatic drop in pressure, like the backside of an impeller blade, or in an ultrasonic bath, bubbles stuck to the sides of a reserviour are pretty normal if the fluid has been airated.

Those bubbles are there because there's a filter that makes the bubbles action, you have 2 options to choose between bubbles or not bubbles.

What does the manufacturer say about filling the reservoir when selecting the "bubble option" ? I can't believe they would omit commenting on its operation or method of implementation. Edit:... with regards to 1/2 full, 3/4 full, etc.

After watching the video, the only mention of bubbles comes from the special plate that is installed just above the pump (bottom). There was no indication how to use the 2 inner removable tubes. (long in the bottom, short in the top.)

From your initial post it looks like there is some sort of polyester batting floating in that gap space between the two inner tubes.
In the most recent picture it looks like you filled the reservoir to just cover the bottom of the top inner tube.
Did you determine that the proper fill level was to cover that top tube? (from the bottom, partially)

How is the temperature different between the 2 different fill levels?

That was the idea.

A reservoir is an expansion "tank". It's there to provide a place for the liquid to expand into and contract from as the temperature of the liquid changes, and can supply additional pressure to the pump. If a PC watercooling system has soft tubing, a reservoir is (most likely) not needed due to the small range of temperature delta. That said, a res is nice for filling a system, getting air out and as a visual aid that all is well.

Yep. As long as your water level is not low enough to allow the pump to suck air, you're good. That return tube should be below the level of the water for the same reason, not adding air to the water.

I just fill them as high as I can get it ,without it being a pain in the ass, I screw the top on ,and I'm done. It doesn't have to be perfectly filled down to the ounce, but as good as you can get it without making a mess.

I prefer not using stand alone reservoirs, and just using radiator-based reservoirs instead
