Right bios but no pixel fill rate

Hello guys,

I bought a second hand gpu and it seems like it was from a miner. It shows me no pixel fill rate or shaders, so I flashed the bios back to the original (or I thought so) but the problem still exists. I’m pretty sure it’s correct but it’s still not working. I get a green screen when I try to benchmark. Below I’ve attached the model number and memory type.

any help would be appreciated! I’ve tried the STRIX ROG O8GB Samsung memory to flash but the card still doesn’t show pixel fill rate etc

Hello.
Bellow you have a BIOS file that is a perfect match for your card model ID subID and memory chip producer and type:
After you finish flashing procedure....DO NOT restart computer yet, use first atikmdagpatch.
Then you could restart computer.
Not in all cases, but sometimes it is best to remove all drivers AFTER you flash the BIOS.

I would suggest to remove old drivers ONLY by using DDU.
This is a tool exactly for that.
You will do it in safe mode with the network disconnected.
After you restart computer (w/o network) windows won't be able to install auto the drivers due to the lack of network.
Now you will be able to clean install the drivers you desire.
As i said earlier DO NOT use the latest drivers, since AMD is known for ignoring the old video cards in the latest drivers. All they improve (actually they only correct) some errors in games reported by players.
So try to use a 2019-2020 version.
I would suggest the following:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-19-9-2

or

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-2-2

After you finished reinstall drivers but before you put the network cable back on, you will block windows 10 to autoupdate.

To disable automatic updates on Windows 10 permanently, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for gpedit.msc and click the top result to launch the Local Group Policy Editor.
  3. Navigate to the following path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
  4. Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.

  5. Check the Disabled option to turn off automatic updates permanently on Windows 10.
  6. Click the Apply button.
  7. Click the OK button.

After you complete the steps, the system will stop downloading updates automatically.
However, the ability to check for updates manually will continue to be available on Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and clicking the Check for updates button to download the most recent patches.

Only now you can reconnect the network.

After all this you should have a fully functional card.

The pixel fill rate is showing up in GPUZ now! But the graphic still goes out when I try to bench test it. I’ve tried both drivers :(
Can’t open games either, is this a sign of a dying GPU

Yes could be.
But did you ever saw the card working or you bought it already dead ?

Unfortunately I was told he couldn’t flash the bios back so I took a chance. He used HiveOs so I thought I could bring it back to life on windows. Sucks, is there anything else I could try?

edit* It sounds like the GPU is shorting when I open a game. Like it turns off is it possible the PSU isn’t supplying enough power? The entire pc is still on though

Well, ofc there is another issue when you have a low quality PSU or a bad one.
Try another PSU instead, but make it a 80+ gold for testing.
Ask a friend to borrow one until you test it

Well 600 from Thermaltake SHOULD be enough.
If it is a 100% functioning PSU

Should be, I'd say the card is iffy or you just do not have the right BIOS on it. One can never really trust these miners. Might just be that he creatively sold you a bad card...

BUT, do not throw the card yet.
Test 1st your system with another PSU.
If it still fails then you must take the card to a repair shop cause it is not a trash yet.
There is hope all the time.

does the driver install correctly? (no "windows basic display" / error 43 in the device manager?). Can you please double check for any damage on the gpu chip (on the photo you took there are some scuffs but it may just be old thermal paste, clean it thoroughly with a clean wipe or somethn non abrasive to avoid scratches, ideally alcohol should also be involved but if you manage to wipe the chip factory-clean then it doesnt matter)

I will try another PSU during the weekend when I can grab my hands on it. As for device manager it shows up as a RX580

Well to be honest i own an RX580 that is recognized by windows correctly but after 3-5 min my computer freezes.
I talked with the tech guy who usually repair my cards and he agreed that the card has a hardware fault.
So after you test the PSU then you maybe think at the variant to send the card to a repair shop.

Is there a way I can change the memory timings?
I'd change thermal compound on gpu die and thermal pads.

Here is a list of files, they must contain Samsung FB in the details.

Your card physically has that ram on it.

Hi. As i said earlier and as @eidairaman1 said, we suggest the following :
- Test PSU when you have one
- At least check the status of thermal paste from GPU and thermal pads from memory chips. If they are in perfect condition no need to worry.
BUT...we both suspect something regarding the power draw at your card and the thermal transfer of heat from GPU+Memories.
Keep us informed.
