RTX 3070 fan at max speed al the time

have an rtx 3070 with 2 gpu fans, sudently after a reboot, on of the fans goes to max with 0 gpu load. I cant adjust the fan speed in msi afterburn. The second fan start spinning when gpu is loaded.
Have tried benchmark it and the gpu is working fine.

there are the thing i have tried:

- Clean DDU driver install
- Reinstalled msi afterburn
- reinstall windows
- disconnected the card and removed dust and checking the wire(works fine)

if i roll back drivers or remove drivers, the fans goes to normal. if i reboot the pc, the fans stopped and goes to max when i boot into windows.
Possible something wrong in bios?
anyone got the same issue?

Either

• the cable to the fan has come loose in the GPU
• software is controlling it (Afterburner, EVGA precision, etc)
• you have a GPU miner, hiding its usage

Does HWinfo64 give you readings for RPM from both fans?

have deleted al software like afterburn ect.. do not get any reading of rpm on the fan who is running max..

Yes but do you get one or two readings?
Even at 0RPM, knowing if theres one or two RPM sensors will help

Get HWinfo, have a look.


Then take out the GPU and inspect the physical wire that goes between the fans, it's somewhat common for one side of a fan plug to come loose leading to weird fan behaviour

It shows one GPU fan, at 33% - while the GPU is at low load, and cold (so, not a bitcoin miner)
If the fan was at 100% while that was happening, that means the connectors physically loose


You didn't specify what model 3070, so its hard to give precise information here

Check thoroughly the fan's wire and headers for any damages.

Check the vendor website for VGA BIOS updates and try to contact their support.

If its not too complicated for you, you may try to locate the latest BIOS from the TPU database.

it only shows gpu fan 1, and i have 2. the fan show 30% but i am sure the fan goes to 100% , its so loud! the other fan is just spinning for 1 sec then stops..

wiring is okei
no damage
installed vga bios
updated bios

I'm going to assume yours looks like this?

You need to follow the wiring for both fans and see what they connect to, often theres a Y splitter between them and it's a common place to come loose, even the slightest amount can cause your problem

I recall a feature for some card, I forget, that one fan was supposed to shut off when the card not under load.

Are you sure its the graphics card fans and not a case fan thats loud?

100%!! broke the fan under cleaning today so now no fans runs.
But still shows 33%. Fucking shit. It wil not update vbios. All wiring was good. Starting to get pissed of this shit.Should have deleted absolutly everything on the pc inkluding bios, vbios, drivers, u name it.

Do i loose my waranty because i broke the fan?

and last, couldnt find the same fan as i broke , NR of the fan: T129215bu. The fans i fond with the same nr was only supporting gtx 1060 ect.. can i use a diffrent fan with different nr?

Damaging a component can void a warranty, get a replacement fan. DO NOT FLASH THE BIOS!

That Y joiner is usually the problem... you can try warranty (dont say you opened it, say the fan seized and fell out) - or you can replace the fan

The fans are common and have been used for many, many GPU models (especially with gigabyte) so they're cheap, $12 for a 3 pack here

These guys have HP 3090 fan replacements, but they dont match how yours seem to attach

Inrobert has fans from other 3070 models, but i dont see one with your strange mount

I guess what you need to look out for, is how they attach to the GPU: get a replacement with matching screw holes

The GPU itself will run with no fans attached directly to it, as long as its cooled.
Technically any fan that fits and is powered (even powered externally) will work to keep the card fine. Look at some of the youtubers who modded their GPU's to use noctua fans, as an example (Yes, that would void the warranty - but would fix the card and let you keep using it)
