Hey everybody,
I've got the following problem: My GPU caps the FPS in games and applications to a max of 85FPS and I can't figure out why! When I'm not running anything like a game, meaning I'm on my desktop, using my browser and such, it delivers 165FPS, in accordance to the Monitor its hooked up to. I've already spent a lot time with the Nvidia Customer support, who was very nice and forthcoming towards me, however, unable to solve the problem.
The 85FPS cap kicks in when I run things in fullscreen as well as windowed mode. In the added screenshot I've included as much information\overview as possible in the hopes of finding help here!
It might very well be that the issue is something obvious for some, however, this is the first tower I've build myself and the first proper performance rig I've owned. Most issues I've come accross so far were solvable with patience and the magic of google, however, these 85FPS drive me INSANE!

Any tips, hints, fixes will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Cheers!

Judging by that screenshot, there's no magic "85fps" cap. The Unigine test result various between 83 and 86 fps, which sounds like that's all the performance the system is capable of at those settings. Lowering the quality and/or resolution will see the framerate go up significantly.

I also wouldn't trust the framerate counter on the monitor, too much. Try those lower settings and see if the framerate goes up. Also, I think the NVIDIA driver might support a framerate cap nowadays. I don't have my PC handy to check, so look around the 3D settings in the driver for it.

Have you tried running the same benchmark at lower res? Is 85 "cap" still there?

Yes, unfortunately 85FPS remains the max for the benchmark. sidenote: My monitor has an FPS counter. this one shows 85 when im "in unigine" whilst windowed (sorry I'm not sure about the proper terminology), but as soon as I click into another window e.g. CPU-Z it jumps right back to 165, whilst the benchmark still displays 85. I hope this makes sense when combined with the attached screen capture.

Unfortunately, the framerate does not increase at all, however low I go with quality/resolution etc. All feedback I've got through various channels clearly indicates that the framerate is limited to 85fps in certain conditions.

I FOUND IT THOUGH, IT WAS IN THE 3D SETTINGS! THANK YOU!!:love::love:

I see the OP fixed it. Just wanted to add that Heaven is capable of well over 300 FPS in the highs (not average) at those settings he has.

Did you change it and forget? The max frame rate limiter is off by default.

I'm getting all the way up to around 307 max FPS, average FPS at 173  Benchmarking with these settings:
Settings.JPG

That's without any overclocking. I'm super happy with those numbers, seriously doubt wether I even should attempt to overclock anything... "dont fiddle with a running system", my grandpa always used to say.... :pimp:
Thanks for the help once again, I honestly felt a little stupid once I found the setting. I dont know how I couldve overlooked that before.... :toast:

I did not, at least not willingly/consciously. I suspect that either some program changed that setting without my knowledge, or maybe the driver switched it to 85fps as a safety measure after I had installed some new hardware or something? All my searching for others who had experienced the same issue was pretty much without results, specifically the 85fps seemed a very unique number. I only found one single post in a forum that mentioned a similar issue with the same cap of 85. That dude figured that it had been a result of installing new RAM to his system (which I did as well recently). However, his fix wasnt doing it for me... :(
Lucky me, I came here :respect::lovetpu::clap:

85 Hz is a common refresh rate on CRTs. But not on LCDs. (facepalm)
