I want to make a little step in upgrading gpu video card, from Rtx 2080 mobile(laptop) to Rtx 3090 desktop.I want to switch gaming from mobile to desktop.I found some price offers for 3090 between 550-800 $.
Rtx 3090 Founder Edition -600 $
Rtx 3090 MSi Suprim X -same price 600$
Rtx 3090 Msi Gaming X -700$
Also i found a Rtx 3090 TI MSi gaming X but this card cost 800$

-Which version of 3090 have better quality build and better cooling, Founder edition or MSI ?

-This upgrade to 2080 mobile to 3090 is worth for gaming ?

Of course it's still a good card. Between these, the Suprim X is the best one. The 3090 Ti is quite a bit faster, if you can afford that one, buy it.

I have a Suprim 3080, and it still rocks.
But... changing the termals (gpu die and vram) is a must for this model.

The 3090 and 3090Ti are still great. Even the 3080 is still pretty good despite its VRAM, so I would definitely aim for a MSI Suprim X 3090 or MSI Gaming X 3090 Ti (leaning towards 3090 Ti if you can afford it)

Nothing wrong with a 3090.

Lots of people still make great use of the 3080/3080Ti/3090/3090Ti cards. I can't comment on build quality, but you could check out the reviews of the 3090 models here on TPU to help give you a better idea on cooling for a lot of these cards or at least similar models from MSI if the exact model isn't tested.

If you were content with the performance of the 2080 mobile (which I hear is about the equivalent to a RTX 2060) then a 3090 will be a solid upgrade.

The only problem, i am worried because all version of RTX 3090 have Micron memory type and not Samsung, and in the past, Micron had a bad reputation for memory artifact issue on the screen if i am not wrong :(
On 3000 series this company Micron repair the problem memory issue from the past?

I can't afford it 3090Ti because this card is power hungry and requires 850w PSU,and my PSU have only 750,and i think between 3090 and 3090ti is not so much differences in fps right?

Yes a decent card, price used is still too high here though. When they drop another 100 or so to more like <500 could be a good buy.

depends on the game and resolution you play but 3090 is still a VERY strong card. if you really need the 24gb vram great, otherwise, the 3080 is also a kick asz card to use. consider the PSU though. that card needs power and the Ti more so.

Micron had a bad reputation for memory artifact issue on the screen if i am not wrong :(
micron crucial suck asz. memory, ssd. whatever its why I never bought their products. I have the 2080ti which is known for artifacting. so far ok. I dont know the percentage of the cards that were affected, but not sure 30 series...did it have many issues?

Only Micron manufactures GDDR6X, so that's normal. The 3090 Ti's memory subsystem is better, and it uses much less power so it heats a lot less than the 3090. What 750 W PSU do you have? If it's a high quality one, the 3090 Ti will work.

Depends on the configuration Nvidia still used identical die for laptops for the 2000 series so the 2080 mobile comes with the same shader count as the desktop 2080 just with a maximum 150 watt configurations vs around 200w for the desktop.

In the best configuration I believe they were only about 10-15% apart. Worst case the 3090 is still around double the performance though so more than worth it even if the OP has the maxed out configuration.

The only problem, i am worried because all version of RTX 3090 have Micron memory type and not Samsung, and in the past, Micron had a bad reputation for memory artifact issue on the screen if i am not wrong :(

There is always a risk when buying used a lot of 30 series cards were used by miners out of the choices the FE and Suprim are the best options.

personally I'd probably pick the FE I like the form factor better and out of the box it will use less power and they were pretty well made. I don't think the TI is worth 200 usd more it's a whopping 10.6% faster @1440p and uses 40% more power smh in TPU latest gpu review.

The only real advantage is the memory chips are all on the front of the card making them run cooler.

GPU land kinda sucks right now no matter what path you take.

Or possibly get a RTX 4070 Super which is about the same performance as a 3090 with the money saved on a new PSU as it draws much less power ........... just a thought/option.

4070 Super is give or take the same performance for give or take the same money, losing some edge at 4K, and when 12 GB VRAM is problematic.

But requires MUCH less from your PSU and handles DLSS4 + ray reconstruction significantly better. Will also physically live for longer.

If you're sure you won't use it for any ridiculous game that needs a lot of VRAM and you also won't use it for workloads of the same quality then I'd recommend going for a 4070 Super.

And... yes, paying $200 extra for a Ti doesn't feel quite right.

This issue was a one generation thing. Not an issue on the 3090, and people thinking crucial ssd experiences apply here... well they don't.

Depends on where your looking I guess. I suppose the 3090 has better resell value purely from its VRAM amount, so I could see 4070 Supers being cheaper on average.

If for whatever reason OP wants 32-bit CUDA support then it's busted. 4070S/Ti is way better in terms of features. MFG isn't nearly worth it.

the thermal pads and backplate are what cools them, gddr6x runs hot, as long as they're under 100'c they work fine.
The tdp is only 50w higher than a 5070 Ti, which probably costs double the price.
Both heat a room with their tdp.
Frame gen sucks, but you can still use it with fsr3 or lossless scaling

Get a 5070 instead it's as fast as a 3090 Ti with more modern architecture.
All that really comes down to is better power efficiency and multi framegen, but lacking vram. I'd probably go 3090 instead. That lovely vram won't be an issue till the card is obsolete. The 100W tdp difference would be an issue if I ran unlocked framerate all the time, pegging the card to 100%, but I don't.

Better than my 3080 which is still fine for me. Just little fine-tuning with the settings for the most newest AAA titles, and this is still fine.

Half of the VRAM of 3090 (Ti) doesn't sound a wise choice, at least in my opinion.

Better than my 3080 which is still fine for me. Just little fine-tuning with the settings for the most newest AAA titles, and this is still fine.

Half of the VRAM of 3090 (Ti) doesn't sound a wise choice, at least in my opinion.
Buying a five year old, probably mined on, GDDR6X running hot 4-450 W GPU does? For the same price?

Buying at all... lololol

Avoiding cards without direct 8 pin is to be commended. 3080 or 3090 variants are not a bad move from inferior 2xxx version. Do what feels right and be extremely diligent about which piece, not just model, of hardware you buy. Ignore all the other noise.

I almost never agree with this guy, but I have to admit he's got a point this time.

Why spend the same amount on an old product when you can get a new one that's equivalent or even better, with much better support and reliability? A used GPU could fail unexpectedly, leaving you stranded.

It's smarter to go for something like a 5070, 4070 Ti, RX 9070, or similar options.
