Hello everyone,

A friend of mine, built a new pc with the following specifications:
Intel 265k
Z890 MSI Gaming Plus Wi-Fi
128GB RAM
MSI RTX 5070 Ti Gaming TRIO

And we're having a very weird issues:

I've already did 4 windows fresh install, and everytime I install the GPU driver (I've already tried all versions since the first one that supported 5070 Ti), Windows gets black screen and reboots into BIOS and stays in this loop, and the only option to fix this is entering info safe mode and uninstall the Nvidia drivers, then it finally boots back into windows.

So, is this clearly a GPU problem, or something else that can be doing this, like a faulty mobo?? But I don't think so, because it only happens right after Nvidia driver installation.

Any ideas, would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I had a MB that had a similar issue years ago. Tried multiple OS installs (at the time it was Vista and XP), tried multiple GPUs with a handful of drivers and nothing resolved the issue. I either ran into BSOD or the system locked up. Prior to installing the GPU driver everything worked just fine. Got a replacement MB and the problem went away.

It's hard to say exactly what your underlying problem is, but it's easier to figure out if you have spare hardware to test with such as at least a spare GPU that you know is functional.

I have my own that can use for testing his hardware, you suggest me to install for example my RTX 4080 on his pc to check if the problem persists? Or even try his RTX 5070 Ti in my PC?

Test a known working card on the PC, see if it has a similar problem or test the 5070Ti in another computer that works and see if the problem follows it.

I'm going to do that, but before I tried something that actually worked...

So, I went to BIOS, and changed the PCI slot speed from Auto to Gen4 and it worked, I finally managed to install the Nvidia drivers without any problem...

This is not a proper solution, because I'm fixing the issue by running the card in a slower speed, even if the speeds between Gen4 and Gen5 are almost zero, he didn't buy this PC to have limitations on it, he wants everything working as it's suppose to.

What could it be causing this issue? Right now I'm starting to think the problem is the Motherboard and not GPU.

I forget if that's a card issue or a MB issue (BIOS). Too lazy to look up, but fixes for the issue are changing to PCI 4, running the monitor at 60Hz and one or two other suggestions that I forget because I don't have a card from this gen.

Are you using a riser cable for a verticle mount? That one would have to support gen5 as well.
Otherwise reseating the card might be worth a shot if you haven't done that already.

This was a fix that I've found in reddit, but for me it's not a good fix, there must be another way?

Not using riser.

About reseat, already did that before trying software/bios related fixes

Now this is getting even more weird...

I've set manually both PCI-E lanes and M.2 Lane 1 both to Gen5 and everything booted up normally.

Then, i tried to reconnect again his SATA SSD 860 and 4TB HDD drives again, and the problem came back again, so i had to set everything back to auto again...

Then, for some reason, it started to boot up normally again, i've set everything to Gen5 again, and now it's booting and working normally again.

What the hell is this?? Is this motherboard plagued or something? lol... Dunno what to do here, if i should just leave it like this, or it will just stop working normally again at some point.
