My kids have Dell Optiplex SFF PCs for gaming and I bought one a RX550 (Dell p/n 06J78X) which worked well for Fortnite etc. I then bought a second identical card for the other but with it installed and active it won’t boot up, nor will any other PC I tried it in.

Using integrated graphics the PC will boot and Device Manager recognises the card although an error 43 is reported. GPU-Z has some missing details:

bad-rx550.gif

See missing TMU/Memory size and clock values.

I flashed the BIOS off the working card to the broken one along with a slightly earlier one off techpowerup but no difference, still won’t boot.

My guess is something up with the hardware itself but before I bin it is there anything else I should try?

Yup get your money back, go get a rx 6400 or rx 6500 brand new

Not everyone can do it, also sometimes those smd parts are bad
Perfect card for practice ;)

There are people who should never touch a solder iron, I encounterd this in 2019, the guy lifted 2 solder pads and traces off a pcb, he even damaged an ic, i know this because i helped him complete it and after applying power the speaker and lights were only operating at half capacity, he almost failed the project because he got a 70 on it, the instructor said wtf is this.

Yeah, I hear ya. Lol. Good story though.

Sending it back and getting a rx 6400 or 6500 xt isnt a bad idea either. Both cards will handle Fortnight way way better too.

Yeah always a huge risk with buying used electronics, most should stick to brand new in box with a warranty.

I bought it a few months back so no chance of return. I am the world’s worst at soldering but nothing to lose so I’ll give it a go! What does the component actually do? Here it is on the other graphics card

The Alpha Numeric White Silk Screen Address 'U590' is the identifier of the Integrated Circuit, it has 5 terminals, might be an Operation Amplifier.

Well, that was a disaster. My smallest soldering iron tip was far too wide and I think I just ended up burning a hole in the component, at least as much of it I could see before it pinged off my tweezers into an as yet undiscovered place on my (black) worktop

No idea how people do smd work, full respect to those who can do it.

I’ll keep an eye out for low profile RX6400/6500s :)
