I'm done repasting my system since my cpu is running a bit too hot, I then decide to check BIOS and I see this, my cpu running at 1.47V, which I don't think is right or healthy.

I don't think this is the right voltage for it, is it? I've tried searching on google, but I found absolutely nothing (google is in great shape nowadays).

If anyone knows what the proper voltage is, please tell me.

Ryzen normal behavior is higher voltage at idle/ST workloads with it dropping quite a bit under all core workloads.

Check voltage with hwinfo64 at idle and during an all core workload.

Beyond that make sure you're on the latest bios.

All CPUs in BIOS are running at base clock speed.
Given that fact I would say that your CPU (for 4.7GHz base clock) should be getting around 1.3V

I believe that what you are showing us on the screenshot is not the live in-BIOS value.
Usually it is shown on the right of screen if you are in advanced mode or somewhere on top if you are not in Easy mode.

For example below this CPU is getting 1.296V

I was fiddling with my memory settings for the first time since i got this 7600x rig recently and saw 1.41v in bios. However, my soc voltage is 1.305 and core voltage according to hwinfo settles around 1.33 under multi core load. Max spike was 1.39 thou. Voltage varies a lot in single core workloads like cinebench single core test. Mobo is msi x670e tomahawk wifi, I don't oc so everything is auto except memory.

You can't have ignored bios updates since 2023 right?

1.3-1.4 is what I see on a 7600 system as well.

I automatically set soc as low as possible usually 1.1 though.

There's not a "proper voltage". Vcore for Ryzen is always dynamic depending on load, all the time.

On AM4, the upper limit for most CPUs was considered to be 1.5V. Vcore during ST loads can get up there, although a lot of non-AMD software also reports high Vcore at idle (which is both true and not true at the same time, due to how CPPC works). Aggressive PBO manual or auto settings could also push peak Vcore readings past 1.5V sometimes. I haven't seen anything to suggest the 1.5V upper limit bound has changed since then, so it should be fine. But on both AM4 and AM5, it's just a vague limit - some CPUs may make most of that Vcore envelope, some CPUs (e.g. APUs, X3Ds) will in practice have much lower peak Vcore.

Also, the BIOS value in the auto field doesn't mean a whole lot. Try monitoring in Windows with software, e.g. HWInfo, Ryzen Master.

AM5's voltage cap came in AGESA 1070 but at least outwardly only intended for VSOC. But it may be the case that voltage behaviour for other rails has changed as well.

Assuming it's not a physical cooling issue, if you want to bring down thermals on vanilla Raphael CPUs it should be done by a combination of negative CO offset (and possibly negative Vcore offset?), power limits, and/or lower temp limit. Not setting a manual Vcore.

I suggest to change the SoC voltage so that in HWiNFO you get at least below 1.2V (If lower even better) on the SoC (SVI3 TFN) sensor. Can't remember the whole name on AM5 now but that (SVI3 TFN) will help you find it. It will be on the "CPU: Enhanced" section of the sensors

My old R5 3600 was hitting 1.48-1.49V at idle or very low loads and current 5900X never above 1.475V

yup should still be there

no reason to run any higher VSOC than is strictly needed for RAM and iGPU stability. FCLK does not like excessive VSOC

If you are referring to first post about the 1.472V, we dont know yet... OP must answer some question after reading our responses.
Most likely this is not the in-BIOS CPU voltage but maybe the limit.
CPU voltages are not stated like this in BIOS. In a list with other settings.

BTW what's yours in-BIOS CPU voltage

And your CPU may need a better cooling...(?) or you are having too high ambient?
It is thermally limited with power headroom (up to 142W PPT)

EDIT:
typo

I believe that what you are showing us on the screenshot is not the live in-BIOS value.
Usually it is shown on the right of screen if you are in advanced mode or somewhere on top if you are not in Easy mode.
In the right of the screen it was also showing that high voltage. I didn't do any stress tests to try to see if the auto voltage did have it there when pinned, but when playing bf2042 I did record it being at around 1.33V, peaking at 1.40V, using HWMonitor. Do note that I wasn't looking to measure voltage when I saw those numbers, I was looking into thermals, as I felt that something was up with my cpu, and immediately decided to repaste my cpu and clean my fans a bit.

That's what got me here to ask about voltage, I decided to re-check the voltage setting and found it to be higher than what I remembered being advisable, which is what got me to ask here after some failed google attempts. In the end I applied a -0.13V offset.

I will fill in some more details when I wake up, as it is very late.

So with CPU Vcore on auto your reading in the BIOS was 1.47? With 4700MHz?

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version?
Also check your CPU SOC voltage with ZenTimings or HWiNFO64 (sensors mode only)

OP, go into PBO curve optimizer settings & see if your particular chip can run with negative offset for boosting.
Mine runs consistent 1.285v according to HWiNFO with 5.5GHz maximum all core boost in gaming. I got -30 on mine but I don't use the latest agesa. Using air cooling like you.

So with CPU Vcore on auto your reading in the BIOS was 1.47? With 4700MHz?

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version?
Yes, I recall it showing ~1.47-1.44V with 4700MHz.

I updated the BIOS a while ago, and while it's not the latest version now, it is a BIOS that was released after the patches to prevent dying cpus.
What does that mean? How hot?

It was running this hot.
And your CPU may need a better cooling...(?) or you are having too high ambient?
Summers in spain are cruel, and the AC is currently not working :(.

This is how thermals were looking after a repaste and applying a -0.13V offset. Do note that both screenshots are from me playing BF2042, not cinebench or any other proper cpu stress tests. (all pictures from last night when I wanted to be done with it, I might do some more testing later today).

Yeah, that's hot. :(
It is... And its not even going over 100W
Typically a 7600X all core is around the 115~120W region at 95C with mid air tower.

In BIOS? Whats the voltage now?
Why didnt you get the latest?

What kind of load is this?
Maybe someone else with 7600X can run the same load and compare voltages/speed/temp.

I am running BIOS 2214, the latest BIOS when I updated it in the beginning of the year.

Checking HWiNFO64, CPU SOC voltage is currently at 1.28V.

Could be worth trying a new one. Two birds with one stone and all, since there's the new Ryzen vulnerability.

VID looks a little odd if that's only after a -0.13V offset. But hard to tell with the temps unless you use something that provides a bit more per-core info (HWInfo).

Well, your motherboard and cpu cooler are good. 95c in a game is baffling thou. voltage reduction always help. Could it be bad mount ? I'm not familiar with that game but i got cyberpunk and its the only game drives my cpu to 74 and on occasion 80c. 25c room. I'd get a cinebench r23 score just for reference and maybe troubleshooting in the future.

I was in bios today to apply buildzoid's memory settings and saw these. They are not set values, as they are changing 1.41, 1.42, etc.

In bios cpu is in a different state i believe.

Make sure there is no plastic film on the bottom of the heatsink or on the cpu itself. Also ambient temperatures truly affect how hot or cold a system will run. You may need to consider a window unit or roll around AC to keep temperatures at bay.

Electronics in Aviation for jets use air heat exchangers with a dessicant and a Environmental Control System Turbine(s) for forced movement of cooled air.
