S3 Graphics, a leading provider of graphics and multimedia technologies, today announced the availability of CyberLink PowerDVD 8 software for Blu-Ray playback on the Chrome 500/400 Series graphics processors.

The combination of S3 Graphics' ChromotionHD 2.0 video engine and CyberLink's leading high-definition movie playback software gives users a higher level of theatre-quality HD video playback experience. Immersive realism in single and dual-stream (PiP) Blu-ray playback can now be experienced on the latest desktop and mobile platforms.

CyberLink PowerDVD 8 leverages S3 Graphics ChromotionHD technology to deliver high quality HD decoding for the latest video Codecs, including H.264, VC-1, and MPEG2 for Blu-ray movies. At the core of ChromotionHD 2.0 is a multi-functional and programmable video/audio engine that supports a wide selection of decoding and video/audio acceleration hardware to provide high quality processing for HD and streaming digital video content. Eight channels of high fidelity Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound brings life-like qualities to the user experience.

With full bitstream decoding, inverse transform, motion compensation, and in-loop deblocking, the S3 Graphics Chrome 400/500 Series GPUs offload HD intensive tasks from the CPU to the GPU, making the decode process more efficient with minimizing total system power consumption. The video engine is highly optimized with the decoding and post processing display pipeline for simultaneous acceleration of single and multiple video streams for crystal clear HD playback on high resolution digital displays.

"The combination of S3 Graphics and CyberLink brings to market another platform that delivers incredible, high quality 1080p HD playback for Home Media Centers, Desktop PCs, and mobile platforms," said Dr. Ken Weng, GM for S3 Graphics. "The feature-rich capabilities in the Chrome 400 and 500 Series provide the end-user with a comprehensive multimedia experience from eye-catching HD video to the latest Dolby surround sound in a leading performance-per-watt product."

"We are very pleased to work with S3 Graphics to further expand the realm of exceptional HD video viewing experience on CyberLink's industry-leading application, PowerDVD 8," said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. "It is through technology collaboration with hardware manufacturers like S3 Graphics can we continue to progress and innovate our line of ultimate multimedia solutions."

WinDVD9 FTW

sorry any powerdvd fanboi's but after alot of testing over the years, including the latest versions, windvd9 uses less cpu, and has higher rendering quility, also its decoder dosnt break anything unlike cyberlinks(google around, their decode/codec breaks alot of other codecs once installed :( )
