Swapped out an older CPU for a high-core (16) AM4 CPU because MS Flight Simulator makes use of as many cores as you throw at it. The Ryzen 9 5950X is affordable and fit the bill. But it only supports 3200 MT ram (my 5700X supported 3600) and seems to not complain about the 4 memory sticks. (Kingston Fury 4 x 16GB). Despite the tradeoff, the positive effect running the SIM is just as expected. But the Smart Memory (Resize Bar enabled) seems to keep the PC from getting past POST. What gives? GPU and RAM worked fine with SAM before the CPU change. Memory settings to look for? My profile has the full specs. I can live with this but don't want to leave performance on the table. Many thanks.

Its just the type and the amount that you are running, you will need to make some tweaks. Also, If the ram tested on the QVL for say your older CPU, does not mean it is on the QVL for your current CPU. I found that out looking at the QVL for one of my AM4 boards.
What gives?
Pull out 2 sticks, clear the CMOS and try again with just the 1 pair.

Canada for the win! You were exactly right. I managed to get SAM to enable and got the RAM back up to 3200 mhz at least. So if I really want more than 32GB in this machine it sounds like i'll have to spend more on RAM. Or possibly get 2 x 32GB sticks instead of using 4. But I think I'm done tweaking this platform and I'll just save any of that for a future AM5 machine with a more balanced set of components. Grateful for the help.

You could probably get it all working, might need to tinker with SOC voltage, I would try at least 1.1v to start, up to say a max of 1.15v. Maybe a little extra VDIMM, or not.. some sticks don't like that sorta thing..

You could probably even get that 3200 you have right now up to 3600 or so just by increasing VSOC to 1.1v

Next time you swap processors, clear cmos and start fresh and try 4 dimms. Just goes to show how each cpu has a mind of its own. :)

Technically the CMOS is cleared once the CPU is remove from the contacts, but it doesn't always work out that way.. and I still clear the CMOS after loading in a new CPU :D

So this CPU claims to be limited to memory running at 3200. Are you saying that that may not be a firm limit just by tinkering with the settings? That would be another nice gain.

For sure it is not a firm limit.

The official support and working speeds are two totally different things. Actually DDR4-3200 is the fastest official JEDEC-spec'd speed, anything faster is XMP and "overclocking"

Probably a totally useless post but just had to say that.
