Hello all I need some help I just finished a new build and read a article about the 980 pros software should be updated so I did to firmware 5B2QGXA7. To my surprise Samsung magician says it’s running in PCIe Gen 3 x 4 recommend to connect to gen 4 for optimal speed (running about 3500 read and write). I have the nvme plugged into m2_1 on my motherboard which supports PCIe 5.0 x 4. Is this the correct slot? Is it backwards compatible to gen 4 x 4 or do I need to move ssd to one of the other slots.

i attached pics of magician and manual of where I slotted nvme

thank you in advance

Hmm, yeah that's odd, I would ask how many PCIe devices you have installed but I think it wouldn't matter for the highest M.2 slot.

There is a BIOS setting that shows/sets the M2_1 Link Speed. By default it is set to Auto but it can be set manually to PCIe Gen 4 if it is not being detected correctly.

On most recent Asus motherboards this setting can be found under Advanced->Advanced->System Agent (SA) Configuration->PCI Express Configuration.
