Samsung began selling ATIV Book 9 Plus in the US, its flagship Ultrabook. This 13-incher features a high-resolution 3200 x 1800-pixel screen, and a wedge-shaped aluminium unibody chassis. The US version runs a Core i7 "Haswell" chip with Iris Pro graphics, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of SSD-based storage. No points for guessing which operating system it runs - Windows 8.1 Pro. Measuring 317.5 mm x 220.9 mm x 12.7 mm (folded), the ATIV Book 9 Plus weighs about 1.39 kg. It's priced at US $1,800.

Too pricey IMO. It's interesting that some PC suppliers have finally decided that it's better to offer Win7 than to lose sales. It will take a little longer for some others to wise up.

nice looking laptop but i would still rather have something like a 13" macbook air. they have better battery life, are lighter, and better screens.

edit: actually, it looks like samsung beat apple to the punch with getting out the high res screen.

It's the last 40g that makes the Samsung such a heavyweight.

Better screens? I'd take a Samsung 3200 x 1800 13" over the crappy 1440x900 on the MacBook air any day.

the only thing going for the air is battery life

I am probably going to get the Yoga 2 Pro, though I've heard about issues with yellow, so I might wait to see it in person or till it gets fixed

1199$ at best buy for 256GB SSD 8GB RAM i7 4500 (HD 4400) and obviously 3200x1800 screen

I don't get the pricing here. The Lite model, which is just the same with a lower res screen, half the SSD size and half the RAM is less than $800. I don't believe all these differences amount to $1000. IGZO screens are simply not THAT expensive, memory is dirty cheep and SSDs have a nearly constant price per GB, so I feel someone's trying to rip me with this price.

I also can't understand where's the 15" version. There was one when this was called Series 9, and it's exactly what I want. QHD+ is plenty of resolution for 15" and Sharp makes IGZO screens of that size.

You are paying for the exclusivity, something which will be ploughed back to R&D. And why would Samsung use IGZO?

The same reason they sometimes use LG panels?

What exclusivity? Lenovo sells a better specced Yoga 2 Pro for less.

Of course they're using IGZO. Samsung simplly doesn't produce these high density panels today.

Will I even be able to read text on that thing?

I have a 13 inch FHD and it's already hard enough to read text.

You can blame Microsoft for silly scaling, but 8.1 fixes things.
